we hunt in coryell county about 3 miles from the Lampasas county line. (izoro) i was wondering if anyone in this part of the country thinks the rut is over? I am betting so. we never really saw anything and im sure it happened at night because of the STUPID hot weather.

Ours is just beginning to start in Duval co. Brother saw 8 bucks this morning and only 2 does... they are thinking about food not arse. The buck I shot 2 weeks ago down theres hocks were dry and puffy like coton balls. They are starting to spar quite a bit and my brother said the deer are acting like its getting close for us.
Alot of it depends on where in the state you are though.

Rut is pretty much over in Freestone County. No new scrapes or rut activity. Saw a group of 5 bucks come to my feeder together this weekend, i was surprised because it usually lasts longer than what it did this year.

Up in Jones county north of Abilene, our rut is either in full swing or on its 2nd go around. I've hunted every weekend this season and I've just now been seeing (in the last week) crazy activity with multiple bucks chasing doe. I know it's different everywhere but up here in west Texas its prime time for me.

Our deer are completely nocturnal right now. Haven't seen any chasing since opening week of gun season.

We seem to be on the tail end of the heavy rut here in Mills. Typically we will have a few late comers thru January.

Usually the most does are in heat around early November in North Texas/Southern Oklahoma, but I bet there will be more activity in December this year with the warmer temps. I saw lots of bucks chasing does in SE Ks last week.

The rut is gonna happen when the rut is gonna happen no matter what phase the moon is or what the temperatures are. What the moon and temps decides if we will see the rutting or if it will be happening at midnight while your in bed rutting at home.
If the does come into heat they dont go out just because the temps warm up, if they are still in heat the bucks are not gonna stop chasing.

Rut or Ruts...we have deer here in the Hill Country that were born in Nov,Dec, Jan, Feb, March, April, Aug, Sept...ect..now I don't think the does had a delayed birth, but we had babies that had spots until the first wk of Oct..South Texas usually has a good Rut from Xmas day thru the 31st of Jan..or longer..DD

Does go in heat in Oct, then in Nov if not "poked", then Dec if not "poked".....IMO the heat does make a difference because they don't run as hard in the heat, so more does don't get "poked" in Oct. Then, since it was real warm in Nov, even more does than average still didn't get "poked".......again, JMO and what I havfe observed. I am sure I am wrong to some degree and it is different in other areas of the state.

In Hamilton about 8 miles from Star saw some good rutting going on this past weekend! Funky looking 8 was limping bad and following around a Doe! The saw a monster nose down strutting hard for a big doe! But why I love to hate the rut... He never stopped stayed around long enough to get a shot! Seein em early morning! So this weekend... I'm rattling!!

I have to agree with Pittstate, I think that with the heat and the drought the bucks have a hard time running down all the does and some don't get bred until several cycles later. just my opinion, ur mileage may vary.....

Those are either exotics, some really jacked up pened or hi fence deer or the crazy exception to the rule.

I have seen bucks chasing does in April, so is the rut really ever over? Mother Nature is one place where it is not easy to put everything in its own little category and expect it to fit there every time the topic comes up.
