My dad just got an AR-15 a couple of months ago and i love it and want another gun like it for myself. I obviously don't want the exact same gun but i am having a hard time deciding what to get. We don't have any pigs at our place and probably would not use it to shoot deer more of just to mess around with and maybe shoot bobcats and other varmints. Any help would be appreciated.

223, then 6.8 then ar 10, then blackout

I had a 300 blackout... Sold it and opted for a 6.8. Much better ballistics. Now if you want to suppress a gun get the 300 blackout. I'm also not a huge fan of the 308 either. I don't need that much firepower from a semi-auto. I like my high powered rifles to be super accurate bolt guns.

5.56, 6.8,458 Socom then another 5.56, 6.8, and a 458 Socom

We already have the 5.56 so it sounds like the 6.8 is what everyone prefers. Are they really that much differant of a gun?

In terms of velocity, ballistic coefficient and overall performance the 6.8 is much better.

Anyone have a specific brad of a 6.8 that they would recommend? I was looking at the Stag.

If you are going to build then I would start with a ARP barrel. He also builds 6.8 uppers around his barrels as well but right now I dont think he is taking many if any orders at all for those due to parts availabilty. You could contact him and find out though.

My 6.8 is a Stag and am very happy with it. Just be aware that 6.8SPC is pricey to shoot compared to .223/5.56. So if it's a gun you plan on dumping a lot of mag's through... factor that into the $ equation.

My AR-10 is a pig at 12lbs + scoped and loaded.

I just started looking into the bullet cost and man it does go up pretty fast once you get away from the 5.56.

Get the 5.56. I just built a 300blk for hunting. 223 shoots way flatter. 223 will really tear the smaller varmints up.
