Has anyone ever got a bunch of corn cob stuck in a lot of 223 brass? I do and I'm thinking of scrapping it all. LOTS of trouble to try and get out. I could stick a primer in it and blow it out but I don't know if a brass case is worth a primer. Plus I have a bunch of 223 brass.

Try a needle on an airgun, attached to an air compressor like the ones you use to air up a basketball. Come in through the flash hole if it'll fit.

Cordless drill with a 3/16 bit. Stop putting wet brass in your tumbler or when the polishing compound is still wet.

Try using some more finely ground corncob media, like blasting media. It does a nice job and won't pack in the primer pockets.

Use less lube, it dosnt take much to size the cases just a little goes a long ways. I use the Dillon spray two to three shots from about 8" on 50 cases at a time, then when sizing I try to do two lubed and one not just rub it between my fingers to get a little lube on it, neck and body. Then right into the rumbler for final cleaning. Every few cases I put a little bit of lube into the mouth of a case to lube the expander ball this just makes it a little smoother. I also have a dillon case media separator this helps it all to come out. I use the corncob media from cabelas it also has some polish with it and it works great.

get or make you a little tool with a paper clip or something and push it out. it's not that much trouble, and each case needs to be inspected anyway.
there is an almost exact same thread several pages back on this same topic.

Each case was inspected and trimmed to length before tumbling and all cases were dry and lube had nothing to do with it, none had been used yet. Also, I previously tried blowing it out with air and the air just goes around the corn cob media and exits the case mouth......it's just the corn cob media was not fine enough, too course. Pet bedding.

you lost me. . . . you don't lube cases to resize? I usually use a univesal decapper to punch the primers out, then tumble with lizzard litter from pet smart with a small piece of white jewelers rouge to clean and polish them up. After that, they get inspected, trimmed to length, chamfered, deburred and primer pockets/flash holes cleaned. I tumble them before they hit the fullsize die to keep from scratching the inside of my dies from grit and dirt. ONLY THEN they are lubbed with oneshot aerosol and full-length sized and primed. I usually do all I have to this point, then finish the loading as I need them.

I just throw the brass in the tumbler with no media for about two three min and it all comes out most of the time.

the corn cob media was not fine enough, too course. Pet bedding. Exactly. Switch to a fine walnut media, and it will work fine. The pet store stuff is cheap, but it's not the best for cleaning some small cases.

i was mainly wondering why you would trim before you resize. that and chamfer is the last thing before reprime and charge. trimming before resizing is kinda pointless isn't it? of course , you can do whatever you want to, i was just curious.

Try using some more finely ground corncob media, like blasting media. It does a nice job and won't pack in the primer pockets. What he's talking about is available at the blasting media wholesale outlet. Ask for 26 grit corn cob and a big bag will be in you hands for a few bucks. If you lived closer, I'd hook you up, got all sorts of it stashed away. I had the same problem until I threw out the Cabela's stuff and went with 26 grit.

I never said I trimmed before I resized, I simply stated these procedures had been done.
I'm drilling the corn cob out with a 3/16 bit as suggested......no other way that I see. It is getting it out though, thanks. A lesson learned.
I may use these cases to resize to 7mm TCU.

Sometimes you can dump all your media out of your tumbler and just put the cases in and run it a little while....At least that's what I hear

A small wire brush on a dremel would clean it out.

Hi boys, Here in Dallas, our old blasting media source - Clemtex - no longer carries corn cob. They do still have walnut shell media for sale. I went to "Plan B" and found the W.W. Granger has corn cob media for sale locally. Just check their website to make sure it will be in stock at your selected outlet, before you stop in. Regards, Gadget Bob - www.TexasCrowPatrol.com

Skip cleaning. You will not be able to tell any difference in your accuracy, just won't look as "purty".

Just a note...corncob media works great on a hotplate to smoke cheese. Hint...don't use the old media

Use common sense..change mediums so that you have a much smaller abrassive and it can clear from the shell casings..223's and most 22's and smaller are too small for the Cobb..DD
