What species do you think will become more popular in the future.

I think that Fallow will eventually rival Axis in popularity and numbers. Urial and Ibex will gain in popularity.

If Scimitar Horned Oryx remain on the endangered list....then I believe Gemsbok will pick up in popularity tremendously. I have also noticed Transcaspian Urials becoming much more popular over the last 2 or 3 years.

Then there are places like Morani River Ranch that are dealing with some ultra-rare species. Kevin is raising Chinese Blue Sheep, Siberian Ibex, and Eastern Caucasian Tur.

I would like to see pure mouflon become more popular. They were huge deal before 2005 and after that it kind of seemed drop off in popularity. Fallow are certainly becoming more popular. I'd like to see Kudu become more popular and a price drop along with that, but doubt it.

Woulda love to hunt one of those. How much he asking for?

You guys ever thought about bringing a 2nd mass exodus of antelope in from Afirca like back in the 1930-50's? To widen the gene pool and make the price go down.(And to save some species since most of Africa it seems is going to hell).

I have no idea, but here's my wishlist (in no particular order):

Bongo
Takin
Nile Lechwe
Red and/or Kafue Lechwe
Nubian ibex
Transcaspian Urial
Roan
Thomson's Gazelle
Grant's Gazelle

If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today...

Leave the Ibex and Urial in the mountains at least! They belong at the peaks, not in the valley!

I don't believe it would be quite as easy bringing in game from africa as it was years ago.

True, unless if a organization like EWA or a huge community of game ranchers gets together and makes it pull through. Heck, we could bring in some species we don't even have/ultra super rare.

Lesser Kudu/Roberts Gazelle/Coke's Hartebeest/Orbi/Bohor Reedbuck/Puku/Southern Gerenuk from Tanzania, Warthog/Red Hartebeest/Bontebok/Limpopo Bushbuck/Color Phase Springbok/Bush Duiker from South Africa, Black-faced Imapla/Klipspringer from Namibia,Tsessebe from Zambia etc.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Direct importation was stopped long ago. Today any imported animals have to be kept in a zoo and only descendents can be released. In the 60's and 70's it was possible to get excess zoo stock and use that, but that approach is much more difficult, with the raise of the animal rights groups.

i really would like to see more of warthog introduced into Texas again, mainly to have them mix into the gene pool of the Texan boar as to make them more fun/dangerous to hunt. Besides i have heard that they aren't to bad of eating so maybe they would make to pork around here more tasty wink

I think real potential will be out of state hunters that want to get a hunting fix off season. The high fence hunters are already aware of Texas, but I think when it catches on the great year around free range hunting Texas has then interest is really going to take off.

hunt Aoudad year around for full experience of Big Horn and 5-10% of the cost.

hunt Axis for a beautiful animal most similar to the deer they hunt at home and they'll even taste better.

Gemsbok, Fallow, and Blackbuck in low fence ranches would be popular if they just knew about it. I honestly don't think many hunters outside of Texas know the great year around free range hunting opportunities in Texas.

Don't believe they can cross breed.

Warthog's belong to the genus Phacochoerus
Wild Boar/Feral Hog belong to the genus Sus

I actually saw a Hartman's Mountain Zebra stallion at Grey Stone Castle.
