Right, my nice guns stay home, when I duck hunt I expect it to get wet and muddy, so cheapo guns go to the duck blind. You can call me cheap if you want 3 shots, but when I shoot 3 times I expect at least 2 kills.

guess I shoulda been more specific. Wasn't talkin bout cheap guns at all, I was talkin abut the abuse one shows to it. I think the main reason most of us do abuse our guns is this is just a rough sport and most guns are built to take a certain amount of abuse, some more than others. I've got high end guns that never will see the duck woods and they are cared for to the extreme. I sent photos and story of what I had put this 870 through to Remington and they put me on some sort of advisory board; I've never participated in it but I thought it was pretty neat they asked......

I used to be a fanatic cleaner...then I shot competitive sporting clays and none of those guys clean their guns after every shoot. So I started not cleaning it but they are cased and taken care of. If it gets wet or starts to cycle funny then it gets a complete tear down and cleaning. Otherwise, I just shoot it.
So normally my duck gun gets cleaned once after season and maybe once during season. My clay gun normally gets cleaned 2 times per year.
Hardly abused but definitely used...not near as much as it did when I was shooting a 1k rounds a month though. This year I shot about 7 flats in the off season instead of the normal 10-15.

I'm a cleaner. If I shoot my gun even once I clean it. If I don't shoot it, but it gets splashed, I clean it. Take care of a gun and it'll last you a life-time. Indeed. When I was in the Army, we'd clean the mess outta our rifles and pistols. It's just second nature to me. If I have time to take one of my guns outta the case, I have time to clean it.

I use to preach that to my soldiers, as much as they complained they werent worried of having a weapons malfunction in the middle of a fire fight.

Something I do to all my guns annually that I shoot a lot is clean the barrel thoroughly too. On my shotguns I use Hoppes No. 9 solvent on a barrel swab soaking it real good and then putting the barrel brush on the ram rod and chuck it up in a drill an make several passes. Then I run clean "patches" through until they come out clean. If you have never done this before; especially on an older gun, you won't believe what you wil get out of it. I did this to my A5 when I first got it and got almost a half a teaspoon of lead and plastic residue out of it. It patterned a lot better after that too. A buddy of mine taught me this that shoots trap competitively after having one of is favorite shotguns start pulling the pattern to one side causing him to have some unexplained misses.

Lakeway that is a great idea but try Breakfree clp or some of the other new cleaners. I think you won't have to scrub as long. At least that has been my experience...plus, Hoppes No 9 gives me a sore throat everytime I use it in a closed garage.

Clean my gun. Wipe it down with oil after every hunt, and clean it inside and out once a week.

My ol grandfather told me to get the best ya can afford, take care of it, and it will do what ya ask of it. My old benelli is 14 years old, been through hell and back and never failed me. It deserves to be properly maintained.

Abuser for sure, This is exactly why I hunt waterfowl with a pump only, I leave my autos at home. My gun gets cleaned when I have trouble pumping a shell in the chamber, other than that it stays dirty. I would recommend a camo gun if you do not plan to baby it.

I keep mine in the case to and from the hunt and while in the boat. But it does get muddy and wet pretty often. I clean it before season starts and after season. It's on its 3rd duck season and still works great.

I am a cleaner, the field is an abuser.
I hunt were mud is something that is hard to find. I wouldn't mind mud, it can be avoided. What I hate is dust. It gets into everything. Every moving part of every piece of gear grates when operated. Lens pens can't keep up with it. A flashlight is useless at range because of all of the particles in the air. I grew up in this crud and I hate it with a passion. Like gritty cinnamon coating everything inside and out. Shot shells become statically charged and get coated with dust, mucking up the chamber and mag tube.
I use gear I don't have to baby in the field like SS and polymers. I run my guns with the bare minimum of oil and in key areas. If I don't, the actions will resemble a farmer's field-diesel tank. I run a bore snake through them every evening, and do a full strip at the end of each split or season.

..a mans gun says a lot about his character. I don't think it says anything about his character, but I bet it does say a lot about what his garage looks like.

I wish I had money like the rest of y'all that abuse yur guns...............a mans gun says a lot about his character. My gun gets broken down and cleaned about once a year. And my character says I want my gun to shoot. If you clean my Beretta Pintail often, it hangs up often. If you just shoot a lil oil in her instead, she rocks on. A man making blanket statements on the web also says alot about his character. And by the way, I spent $300 on my gun, used, 8 years ago. So there's that.
