My son who is a heck of a shot uses is right handed and foot dominant but when he looks down the scope he is left eye dominant. I know what one day he will split his eye open but I've had him at the range numerous times but each time he uses his right eye he hits the top right quadrant and when using left eye he is deadly.
Any suggestions?

Have that problem myself, I either shoot left handed or close my left eye before the shot.

Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

Shoot left handed. Worked for me. X2. When I switched to shooting left handed I realized I didn't suck, as bad. Seriously right hand right eye 3-5" groups. Left-left .5" groups. Start him left handed as soon as possible so it will become natural. I changed later in life and it took a while to get used to. If he takes to it get him a left handed rifle later.

My daughter did that too while she was learning - piece of duct tape solved the problem (temporarily) till she practiced & perfected the holding of left eye shut on her own. Of course she didn't like the tape- told her 'that's the only crutch you get' and it worked, quick! YMMV.

I had the same problem when I was a kid . My older brother fixed the problem for me by having me shoot a sawed off 12 ga side by side and told me I had to pull both triggers at same time . Needless to say after some busted lips I learned to shoot with my right eye .

I have a left handed stock and a right handed bolt. I can't chamber a round while in position, but it is still faster for me.

Don't shoot that way, either change to left handed gun or learn to use the non-dominant eye. It is dangerous.

If it makes you feel any better, he should be an excellent baseball batter. That's because when he bats from the right-handed position, his dominant eye will be closer to the pitcher. This made Ty Cobb one of the best hitters of all time.
Like myself, most right-handed batters are also right eye dominant.

I am right handed but left Eye dominant. I shoot shotguns and rifles left handed, but pistols right handed. My dad started me out shooting lefty at a young age, and it just feels natural to me. I don't feel like it is any disadvantage to me at all since I have been doing it for so long.

I'm left handed, but right eye dominant. I shoot everything including bows right handed.

I have a small suspicion that my son is left eye dominant, he is 4 and prefers writing with this left hand, but he throws equally well with both arms. My father and I have a decent arsenal, nothing spectacular or anything, but neither of us would ever have to buy another gun unless we just have an itch... every gun is of course for a righty... unless Jr needs guns that are backwards, if he is I am going to blame his mother until the end of time. I tried to get him to do the eye dominance test but he didn't understand what I was wanting him to do and he got pretty frustrated pretty quick. Guess that will have to wait a few years...

Tx Dan,
I never thought about that but youre right. He is a heck of batter and has always been at the top of the top and used a bring home batter.
Thanks

My dad was right handed with a hammer or anything else. He would throw and shoot lefty. Ambadexterous. If it works go with it. Got him off of Pork Chop Hill and put a few deer and birds down over the years........

My sister is the same way. Right hand dominant and left eye dominant. I'm trying to teach her to shoot left handed, but she hates it.
