Okay AR guys I need a little advice please. I have owned many a guns in my life and even some pretty shnazzy higher end bolt action rifles but have never had any interest in AR's. Call it my gut or a hunch, or whatever.... something tells me I need one. I dont plan on wearing tactical vests and strapping pitols to my thighs or anything just looking for a AR to have and plink with here and there and maybe do a little hunting with. I have read many a articles about the top tier, low tier and mid tier AR's and even a couple hundred pissing matches about how anything but Colt is junk, etc. I am not looking to spend a $1,000 and I dont know the first thing about piecing one of these things together, and every kit guys reccomend seems to be on backorder anyway. I stopped by a local gun shop tonight here in San Antonio and they had the DPMS Oracle for like $679. It felt really good and yeah I'll probably change a few things and add a few things but not really in a hurry to do it, would just feel better about having one right now and choice in the future. Is this DPMS a decent buy? I know theres higher quality brands out there but just want to get my feet wet a little with this entry level gun. Im all ears, and thanks in advance. I know I can order the Oracle for probably $50 less than I can get it locally and save on tax but this local gun shop looked to be newly opened and I am sure they could use the business.

My buddy bought one and it does what it is supposed to. Decent gun. He changed the hand guard and we put a comp on it. Shoots pretty well for your entry level AR.

DPMS is a good brand and they support the shooting sports.

Matt

my brother bought one last Friday at Academy for 649 we took to get to the range sat. He put a decent red dot on it and we shooting 1 inch groups at 100 yards. it's a nice entry level ar with a flat top and railed gas block, and forward aces as well as dust cover for the bolt, well worth the price tag.

Yeah I have read some bad things about em but that info tends to come from guys that dont actually own one. The guys that do own one for the most part seem pretty happy with them.

So what is considered an entry level ar? An Ar is an ar regardless if it has all the bells and whistles.

Good to support local shops. Dallas paper shows Cabela's selling them for $599.99 for a few days, would think this price would be good at the Buda store also. Price was for the Oracle.

I have been shooting a stock DPMS A-15 20" for the past 10 or so months and have been VERY happy with it, no issues thus far. Keep it clean and feed it good ammo, it'll be accurate and dependable.

I own an oracle. Works fine. Replaced the hand guard soon after purchase. Suffered with the trigger for about a year but a Timney is on the way. Also, the 1:9 twist seems to favor a 55gr bullet and nothing heavier. Had to buy a sling swivel thingy for the forend. Buy some Pmags as well, 20 and 30 rounders. I only carry the 20 rounders.

aside from the trigger upgrade, you may be able to spend and few more bucks and get a rifle with a qrail, sling hoops, and a better adjustable stock. 2cents

I'll tell you what there arent very many packages out there for sale right now. Seems like a repeat of 2008-2009 with everybody gobbling these things up. Cant count how many websites I have been too that sell lots of guns and they are sold out on just about all the entry level rifles or ones with with a few upgrades, only ones left are the higher cost stuff.

You got that right I was at CTD last sat and the only charging handle they had in the building was a black rain for $69, so it came home with me!
