watched the blair witch on dvd last night, late arrival from the dvd place, anyway,, it reminded me of all those tall tales i was told to as kid. what good times those stories were. too bad some of those stories have made it into todays headlines.. so when im out in the woods i think mostly about what great things the man upstairs has given to us,, and thank him every morning for those brave men and women who have paid that sacrifice for us. and it always bring a tear to my eye..
Today ,, Thank YOu again to all you Veterans !!!!

Yeah, just due to the Mountain Lions known in the area. Was out predator calling and buddy mentioned it would be cool if a black panther (seen in my area) came out to the call. We were in my Kubota and went back to the house after he mentioned that.

When I was on a previous lease out of Hondo, would take a youngster for a weekend hunt late season. These kids have never hunted or even been in the woods. I really tried to make it a memorable experience for them. That include a 4:30 wake up for camp breakfast on a cold morning. The walk to the stand was all of a half mile on a crystal clear morning. Pointed out constellations and COMSATS and started our hike. I was determined to make the entire hike....without a flash light. After about a 100 yards I turned around to ask the kid "son can you see where your going" Poor kid was about half step behind me and like to knock me down. Never forget when he stuttered "Ssssir I ccccan't even see YOU!" I did my best not to laugh and whispered your doing just fine. Of course I lost track of how many times I barked by shins and kicked up rocks in the dark...stealthy we were NOT. His momma at the office said later that morning walk was all he could talk about.

Not going to the stand, but a funny story...me And one of my buddies were sitting at camp one night enjoying a few (a lot) of adult beverages and talking about a mountain lion that had recently been seen in the area. Later on nature called my buddy. He was out behind the camper about 100 yards. I managed to sneak up on him with my varmint call that has a lion call on it and I'm pretty sure it went down both legs as he ran off into the night screaming with pants around his ankles. Funniest thing I've ever seen!

No problems as of yet. But I will say those little song birds can sound like a pack of hogs when they start flying through the brush. Will darn sure wake ya up.

Not to the stand, but the same road - Was hunting cottontails at night with a couple youngsters, we were walking the dirt road along fence-line, keeping our red LED light pointed towards brush along fence-line. Stepped over a big branch laying across the whole road as we were walking along, then heard something RIGHT behind us - turned around quick and we ALL stood there in SHOCK as the 'branch' slithered into it's hole under some cactus at fence-line, and I swear that just the rattle on that rattler was a foot long!!!
NONE of us could budge to get a shot off, and the cottontail hunt pretty ended right then and there, as it turned into a race as to who could get back to camp fastest!!!

When I was a kid back in the 80's my dad took me on an overnight fishing trip on the Trinity River in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. The river was low, and we were camped at the edge of the water. A few hours after dark, I realized that I had not been eaten by the boogie man, and started to enjoy my time with dad and my uncle... About that time a cat squawled and ran across the bank above us close enough that we could see him in the light of the fire. My uncle shined a light in the direction he ran, and they soon just went back to fishing. My dad assured me that he wouldnt be back, and that he was as scared of me as I was of him. I didnt believe him AT ALL.
Fast foward to the 6th grade, me and a buddy went to his lease with his dad, and the guys on the next place over were down hunting as well. My buddy tells me that the kid at the neighboring lease has a nice stash of nudie magazines, and we should go check them out after the evening hunt. We stayed over there until almost 10 (he had a lot of literature to go through)and decided it was time to head to camp. As we walked down the dirt road connecting the two places, there was a bridge with a thick canopy of trees over it. His dad had been hiding and waiting for us to come back in a big cedar tree beside the bridge. he scared the crap out of us, and needless to say, I ain't been right ever since.I have been known to fire a warning shot at dark, just to let everything know that I will be sprinting back to my 4 wheeler...

Never have gotten the least bit scared walking to the stand. Nothing out there during the night is any different during the day.

I was on a lease in Teague county a couple weeks back. After the morning hunt we decided to walk the land a bit to see if we could spot signs of hogs....not too long into our walk we run into an old family cemetary plot from the 1800s in the middle of the woods. It was VERY creepy. It was probably just a 12x12' plot with an iron fence surrounding it and was completely grown in with vines and trees. We joked about going back to the cemetary after the night hunt, but never got the balls to do it.
Luckily having my Ruger Blackhawk .41 on my hip gives me courage against predators......but, ghosts.....who you gunna call?

Rabbits are pretty good at making my heart stop on the way in they always wait till I'm right on them before they take off through the brush, gets me every time. One time I was about 13ft up a tree didn't know that turkeys were also in the tree with me when dawn broke and they flew out of the tree I damn near messed myself, didn't know what was happening they had that tree shaking like crazy and the sound of there beating wings took me so off guard if I hadn't of been strapped to the tree I might of fell out.

my buddies dad owned a place in vanderpool that was very creepy.
when you'd come through the gate, you would get creeped out. was actually a stagecoach route that went through there back in the 1800's.
anyway, it was a very odd place, not a lot of wildlife, just a wierd place.
anyway, we never said anything about it or really talked about it.
one day we had a big shindig, and when we were leaving the next day, one of the girls that was with us, blurted out "this ranch gives me the creeps"
something about the place was off....really off i hunted 25 acres behind braunig lake, the river went through the back of the property, that place would freak me out at times there was an old grave yard on it too
