Go for it. Just remember. If you can tell your walking your going way too fast. Good luck.

If we walk around, we are going to do some rattling, we are going to a place we don't expect to sit that afternoon. Unless it's the last hunt of the week.

Two of the three best deer I've taken on my place were on foot. I've had my best success on windy days, moving slowly into it.

Have taken some of my best deer hunting that way. Best time for me with it is during a light rain or after a heavy rain so the woods are quite in getting around. Go slow and glass a lot.

Last Wed. I decided to walk around after some chainsaws started up nearby and made a racket before sunrise. About 9 am I came upon several does and just stayed still to see which one might be best to take. The oldest/largest turned, spotted me and began to stomp--she only got two stomps before I gave her a .556 to the chest. I like stalking more than sitting! It is just so hard to do with dry leave, dry brush, and a lot of cover for the deer.

I normally walk the woods later in the hunt, say the last 2 days of each trip. This year I've been taking my girls and a neighbors son that doesnt get to hunt hardly. I've not been able to do it this year but planning to next weekend. I usually get busted first so I have some technique issues but it is fun.

Killed my best buck by slowly walking with the wind in my face.

Stay tight to cover, avoid walking in open areas, camo up, never move more than 25 yards at once, always look 360 degrees when you stop, stop and sit in cover every 50-100 yards for about 10 minutes, walk into the wind, and as many have said already try to avoid crunchy leaves or anything that makes too much noise, and try to walk like a deer (step step step step...pause, step step...pause and repeat) as crazy as that may sound. Good luck, a whitetail taken on foot is a fun experience. I have done it many a time but no matter what they will see you first 95% of the time. Doing all of the above is what gives you the chance at the other 5%.

Another tip I learned from a good friend of mine is.....Find you a walking stick and use it while walking. This along with the pausing and keeping your face to the wind as recommended above will help you sound more like a 4 legged creature than a two legged one. I believe it has helped me several times while spot and stalk hunting.
Good Luck !

Honestly, it seems to me like deer can sense if you're in hunt/predator mode versus just walking around. I run into more deer when I'm crashing around making noise singing at the top of my lungs and playing a tuba than I ever do trying to put on a stalk.

My son nailed a buck Sunday AM doing this Nothing was moving so we left the blind and walked wind into our face a few hundred yards. Hit a clearing and setup behind some trees to still hunt for a bit. 5 minutes later a doe and then a buck comes out. Down it went.
