Headed your way soon (11/28 - 1 hr south of San Angelo)....I shoot a .260 REM here in sc. It is a 20 inch barrel and a perfect gun for our hunting in the bottoms/brush and for shots inside 150.

I feel this round might be marginal with a 120gr bullet......but I have ultimate confidence in this rifle and hate to change it up this close to the trip.

My grandson killed this one with a 260 4 years ago when he was seven and it dressed over 200 lbs. 260 is plenty of gun!

It sounds like you know your rifle well. The .260 should be plenty.

Using 140 amax I took a buck last year @170 yards DRT, @ 350 yards I popped a coyote with the same round. No worries w/ 6.5

Last year all I used for hunting was my 260. I shot deer, coyote, and pigs and did very well. The bullet was the 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at around 2700 fps. This year is an experimentation year and I'm using the 100 gr Ballistic Tip. About an hour ago I shot a big boar hog with my new concoction, but he did run about 60 yards. With the 120 grainer, I didn't have anything run off at all. So, is the 100 grainer not enough? I don't know, but will continue to run tests on pigs and deer. All that said, the 260 is a fine round to hunt with.

the .22-250 is enough gun for Texas deer. even less recoil and most are tackdrivers.

I shoot a 260 in a armalite AR-10. I hand load 120 Barnes TTSX bullets at a little under 3000 fps . I've killed hogs well over 200 pounds over 400 yds (had a buddy standing next to me) its an awesome round!,

The 260 is a long range 6.5. In the last several years it has been a steady winner in 1000yd. matches. Even outperforming the venerable 308. The 140 gr. bullet seems to be the ticket for long range and is the bullet of choice in Europe for moose. this round will kill anything in Texas.

My 62 year old mother has killed many deer, hogs, and two otters that were dragging her catfish out of her pond with her .260. It is a fine gun.

I agree with C-ray and Texaspatriot, the 22-250 is plenty of gun for deer in Texas and as I have witnessed more than 20 times, so is the 22 magnum rimfire even tho it is illegal. But, and here's the rub. Those little bullets leave little or no blood trail. For a professional shooter not a problem. Bullet placement trumps caliber. A shot to the neck will anchor them in place but the 22s are not the caliber for running shots or body shots. Yes they do kill but can you find a deer that runs a hundred yards into a cedar thicket and leaves no trail?

One more thing for the guy from SC. Our deer here are much smaller than you are used to. Yeah, they have big horns but they can't match the overall size of deer from the piedmont.

More like it blows .308 off the range. Then the 6mm guys come in. 139 140 and 142s are the hot weight.

for those that compare the .260 to the .308, I dont see or hear or any G.I.s asking for a combat rifle in .260 to replace a .308 like an M14. maybe when it comes to game, when it comes to the ultimate game, humans, the .308 still leaves it in the dust.

Got warmed up this AM by blistering a doe......switching from 140 grain to 120 grain bullets (probably federal). Left a 3 inch hole in her and she still ran 100 yards. Lots of forum chat about lighter bullets performing better.

that should be perfect .....120 grain bullet is fine and the range is reasonable .....it should take them down easily

Military has a caliber in beyond 1000 yds and it is the 338. Beyond 1500 it is Ma Deuce the 50BMG. But, and here's the rub. At 800 the 6.5 will penetrate 1/4in. steel plate and the 308 will NOT. Don't get me wrong, I own 4 308 rifles and I love them but If you look at ballistic tables, beyond 500yds. the 6.5s own the walk until you get to 1000. Specifically 260 Rem and the 6.5Creedmoor. Ask those of us who shoot beyond the 500 mark.
