Has anyone come up with an easy way to load a dead hog into a pickup bed? Don't tell me to just pick it up, I hunt alone often and just can't pick up a large hog and sling it in the bed.

Well it will cost you a little bit of money but start looking for an old electric winch, then have a metal shop build you a bracket that will slide into the side rail post on your truck bed, a couple or three 2x12's strapped together to make a ramp & your in business

You could get a hoist that connects to your receive hitch and winch them up. Run a google search for receiver hitch deer hoist and you'll get several to choose from.

Come-a-long to a heavy duty ratchet strap between bed loop holes in front of bed and ratchet him up that way if you dont want to spend much$

Like they said use a come-alone but you can do what I do and that is remove you tail gate and lean it on your bed and it acts like a ramp works great for me.

Three things needed...
come-along
heavy rope
Large tree branch
Drag the hog using heavy rope to the large tree branch.
Wrap your come-along over the tree brach and rachet the hog up.
Back your truck up and lower the hog into the bed of your truck.

I tie a rope around them, then stand in the bed, choke up the rope and give a mighty heave-ho. I push on my heels and set back on my butt. Then grab a leg and drags them in.

The receiver hitch or the wire basket in the receiver hitch. Wire basket is low to the ground. You can do that lift, I have faith in you. reciever hitch lift is the way to go if your really going to hunt alone for a long period of years. http://www.discountramps.com/deer-hoist.htmThis will give you an idea of what they look like.

Just about daybreak on a bitterly cold morning several winters ago, I was aroused from my sleep by a loud BOOM. I knew that none of my hunters were on the place that week so out of bed I jumped. Sadie hopped in the back of the truck with me and off we went. About a half mile down the road I spied a POACHER. He and his truck were about 150 yards out in my neighbor’s wheat field, backed up to a huge hog. Being that he actually was performing us a public service by eliminating another hog and that I had not yet had my morning coffee, I decided to heck with it and went back to the house. I made the coffee, fixed breakfast, and began to get on with the morning. Loaded up the feed truck and took off down the same road that I had traveled an hour ago. Oops! There he was in the middle of the field but now in plain sight of everyone driving down the road and still trying to load that $%%# hog. Pumpers, ranchers, etc were driving by. He looked up as I passed. I waved and he waved back. When I headed home for lunch, there was a big black hog in the middle of my neighbor’s wheat field. No poacher in sight. Never did see that pickup again.

The best lifts seem to be the ones where you crank up the game, then it swivels around with hog and you lower it into the bed of the truck.

We use to butcher cattle. With a pound range between 500# to 750#.
It takes lots of wench to lift that amount of weight. Good luck finding a tree branch.
So whats the magic way to lift a huge animal into a truck bed?
Cut him into 4 chunks......lol......come on guys. This isn't rocket science and you don't need some goofy wench. Get yourself a long wood handsaw. And straight go Texas Chain Saw on the critter. LOL....wench....good luck with that....

I had this problem earlier this year. Stuck a pig and a big one, with my bow and spined him. He dropped right in his tracks at the feeder and I didn't want to just drag him off so I backed my truck up to him. 3 different times I had him almost there. I tried the "where the head goes, the A$$ must follow" method, didn't work. Now I was covered in pig blood and tired. Finally got another lease buddy to help me load him. I think I will now keep some 2 x 12's in the truck or just drag him behind the truck from now on.
At my brothers place, I did this but his is mostly sand so I just tied the pig to the hitch on the 4 wheeler and drug him about a mile in the sand.
I would get the hoist if I planned on doing it alot.

Got a question guys....
At some point the hogs getting butchered sooner or later. So why do you need a wench?
Grab a cheap role of plastic from lowes. After you dispatch his hair butt. Gut him, then just start quartering him. Whats the purpose of buying a wench just to load a complete hog thats gonna get cut up anyway???
A 500# hog cut into 75# chunks is cheaper and way easier to deal with then messing with a wench trying to load 300-500# of dead weight, by yourself into a truck. That same 300-500#s will still have to be unloaded.
This isn't a shopping trip to TSC for a wench. It's hunting. KISS still applies.

None of us are getting younger. I'd check out a wheel chair hoist. Knew a guy that had one for one of the scooty carts. That thing was HEAVY. I looked at the wench for a weight limit. I may be wrong but I think it said 350#. Lord knows that chair was all lead batteries. It was mounted in the bed of a ford ranger king cab. The back of the truck would sag as it lifted. But it swiveled really good. Once it got to the top, one hand push swing to the bed. (The guy that used the chair was a royal richard) I should have seen if the lift could have lifted him. He was pushing 400# easy. The chair felt like an easy 250#

I am not sure of the rating but I have skinned and quartered several nice bucks and hogs on it with no problems .

Could you use a plywood ramp and then attach a block and tackle to one of the forward tie downs? Set up a double tackle (4:1) or gyn tackle (5:1). Friction could still be a problem.
I use this on a bois d'arc tree to lift my deer for cleaning...

Didn't read thread so don't know if it's been said. Always take long cable or rope. Hoist over large tree limb with truck. Tie it off on another limb or tree. Back truck up under pig. Release knot. Loaded pig. Then go home

I like the simple hitch winch and swing. great for pictures, field dressing, and then swing into bed.
