Well guys the Take Em Out Crew headed to the Panhandle of Texas to do some filming for "Predator Instinct Tv" this past weekend Todd Woodall , Cal Ferguson , and Clint Ferguson asked us to Team up with them this year and film most of the Night footage for Tv show that will air on the Sportsman's Channel beginning in Jan. We are very excited about this opportunity and have had a blast on the last few hunts with these guys.
Ok now back to the hunt Myself , David Stroud , Ronnie Oneal packed our bags on Thursday for the 8 1/2 hour drive to Dumas Tx. We arrived in Dumas Friday morning about 1:00 am and decided to go ahead and get started "no rest for the weary"
.... We meet up Allen the land owner and headed out to do some Night calling. The winds were blowing about 19 mph that night and we had never seen the country we were hunting in the day light so figuring out our set ups was a little tuff... It was about 25 degrees that night and the stars were beautiful in the sky one heck of a night for calling. Unfortunately after 7 hours of coming up empty handed we decided to call it a night and head to the hotel for some much needed rest after staying up for almost 24 hours straight. Later that day we got some lunch at one of the local Mexican joints
and headed out to do some day time calling. Me and Ronnie switched off taking turns with the camera filming and running the DPMS on the stands . About our 5th stand of the day David spotted a coyote sneaking into the Fox pro at about 200 yards out the coyote wasn't going to come any closer so David dumped him @ 200 yards with his AR the best part about this stand was the new suppressor David had on his gun Me and Ronnie were only about 50 yards from David when he took the shot and I was amazed at how much that suppressor dampened the sound....
needless to say we were happy to be on the board...
David, Me , Allen and Ronnie
We made a few more stands that day and had 1 coyote come in and bust us and I threw a Hell Mary at him at about 250 yards running away but the shot was a miss... It happens to the best of us!
One things for sure though my new DPMS TPR 223 was functioning very well and it wasn't the guns fault .. lol
We ended our day on Friday evening with only one coyote that wanted to play the game durning the day time stands. So we headed for town and grabbed some dinner and got ready for some Night time action. That Night we only had 2 coyotes that we saw eyes on one was about 500 yards away and circling down wind and didn't present a shot opportunity to second coyote came in after 15 min of calling we switched to pup in distress and we killed him on film at about 60 yards it was a huge male coyote.
This is were the story gets interesting at this point the score is only 2 coyotes down in 1 half days of hunting .. Not what I would call "knocking them dead" at all but at least we were having fun and hunting some new country.
Little did we know that was all about to change on Sat we decided to move locations to a private ranch that was about 11,000 acres and give it a try. We arrived at the ranch at 1:00 pm and basically scouted it out for some good night time spots to call and marked them on the GPS. Their was a few spots that were just to good to pass up durning the day so we made 5 day stands and ended up calling and killing 5 coyotes ... one stand produced a double and the other three stands we killed singles on and one stand was a dry stand... needles to say things were looking up for us on this new place.
After finishing are day stands on Sat we head to town to get some dinner unfortunately the grill was closed by the time we got their
so we stocked up on hot pockets and vena sausages and Snickers Bars.... I know not exactly what I would call a great dinner but it held us over till the next morning. We got back to the ranch that night and started Night hunting our spots. Things started off pretty slow but then it was like a switch got turned on!
about our 3rd stand we started killing coyotes on every stand and we even called up this beautiful Bobcat to 9 yards and got the whole hunt captured on film. Allen made a great shot on this Bobcat it was his first Bobcat to ever call in to a stand. It must have been his Night because he shot 2 of them on this hunt.
The very last stand of the Night proved to be one we wont soon forget. We had called this 10 acre flat durning are day stands and killed a double on Coyotes earlier in the day.... David told me lets go back to that flat and see if it produces again ..... I was like huh..
I told him we called that spot less then 5 hours ago! He told me " So What!!! ..lets give it a try we have nothing to loose"... I told him Ok but was still skeptical.... Boy was I glad we listened to his advice on this stand. We ended up calling in and killing 4 big male Coyotes and 1 female Bobcat in less then 20 mins on this stand...
I was blown away that we could go back to a spot that had been called less then 5 hours ago in the day time and have results like these. We did change our location some and uses different sounds on the night time set up but still I was AMAZED.
By the time all the smoke settled at the end of the night we had 10 Coyotes and 2 Bobcats in the back of the truck in less then 8 hours of hunting..
Stay Tuned for the Tv show dates and times this is going to be some footage you don't want to miss. And a huge Thanks to Allen for having us and to David and Ronnie for helping to make it all happen. God Bless Skinner
