Is it safe to use snake shot out of any/all .22lr pistols?

And is it effective?

I don't believe it could hurt a thing, but I was always told that shot out of a .22 is about as useless as it gets so I never even tried it. Maybe it's better than I think though.

Have used it in quite a few different pistols. The semi-autos have not cycled with it but still worked on snakes and rats.

As to not being effective, there are a lot of rats and snakes that if they were still alive would beg to differ, but since they are dead I guess they will keep quite.

Very effective on snakes at close range.

Sometimes chicken, sometimes feathers

Yes it is fine.

Just shoot it inside 10feet. Otherwise, pellets just bounch around and the critter makes a break for it.

Works fine out of a 22 revolver. Kills rats and snakes if you're within reasonable range (5 yds max). At that distance, I'm just as effective with my bow...

If you are referring to what I have always heard called rat shot, and is the crimped 22 round, I would not shoot a regular round out of the gun after afterwards until a thorough cleaning. The more effective rat shot is the CCI round with the plastic domed top. And they don't foul up a barrel as badly.

I would agree with this, I'm not a big fan of rat shot. Although I can understand that there are some situations where it would be beneficial.

I've killed lots of rats shooting crimped shells out of my Ruger Single Six.
