Well spent the last 4 days in Oklahoma trying to bag a big buck. It was beautiful country side. Rolling wheat fields with lakes and ponds full of duck and geese. Decided to rough it part of the time and get away from society next to a nice lake. It was amazing all night you could hear mallards talking and the yotes screams lasted all night till the first morning light.

The first morning was very foggy., and you could barely see 30-40 yards in front of you. I had what looked to be a decent 8 come in around 40 yards, but I couldn’t age the deer so I let him walk. Later that morning before fog cleared I was surrounded by turkey.

Later a small group of geese circled my stand and sat down in the field to get some chow.

After the fog cleared, a small group of doe came across the field from the south side. It was late in the morning and I figured I should go ahead and get my doe tag out of the way. I took the largest of the group. Got her out of the field, stuck around and did some rattling but nothing showed.

Later that evening I switch to a different wheat field were I had a huge yote come in at around 60-70 yards. His stay was very brief, I didn’t take the shot in fear I might scare off future activity. That was a mistake. The coat on this guy was very thick and the sheer body size dwarfs anything I see around East Texas. All night before dusk the sky was covered with geese and duck flying in to roost for the night.

The next few hunts consisted of many doe, one small 6 point, and tons of turkeys. I never did see another buck that was worthy in my book. But oh well, still had a great time, seemed almost stress free and got to partake on some beautiful country side.

awesome photos!

that is what makes the trip so worthwhile

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Sweet! What part of Oklahoma? Was it family land, or did you have to pay?

I don't carry change, but I love breaking bills!

Man, those are great pictures, East. That country is a sportsmans paradise. I especially like his stand placement, in the afternoon shadows. Great job.
