We set up last weekend in the reeds in this picture and really it's our only good option for cover on this pond. The wind tomorrow is showing as going to be blowing in our face. Across the pond looks like a good spot but the property line actually Goes through the water and isn't our land so we can't hunt there. Is it going to kill our hunt if the wind is in our face?

Going to get alot of passing shots with the wind in your face. If possible try and set up on a cross wind if that is an option.

You will be ok if you add the most decoys possible and poition them in a triangle pointing towards you.

You could set the deeks out a little further and get them to land on your side of the decoys closer to you.
Can you get permission to hunt the other side? Do you have permission for your shot to cross the property line?

Hows the song go ? . . "Ya dont tug on superman's cape. You dont duck hunt into the wind." something like that.
Not to be to negative but with a pond that big, if it blows more than 10, you might not pull the trigger all day.

If I were you I'd try and get that cross wind on the side of the pond. If not throw a big spread, break out some of those retired decoys lol. Maybe run a mojo for the first few minutes of light and face it away from you. Wind is supposed to be strong in the morning, so they will definitely land away from you. Best chance is to pass shoot em when theyre above you.
Thanks for all the positive THF support. Y'all are awesome.

Is there a cove to the left of the reeds? Better take the face paint with that sun..assuming the this is a morning photo.

Ducks will land behind your rig no matter if wind is behind you or in your face. Put your rig in close to shore and have your back to the water. Shoot them when they slow down to alight in your rig. If your facing water it will be to late by the time you mark them. Did it once and pulled out a 5 man limit. Kinda weird at first but it works. PS I'm not making this up to be a smart azz, it really works

Why not go to other side of pond and build a temporary blind out of Hardwood limbs for structure of blind and cedar limbs for cover and camo over the hardwood? Thats what I would do if I was having to hunt that pond. That way you have a chance at a few birds actually coming into range for a shot.
The one thing I've learned from hunting ponds on a south wind, with the shallow neck on the north side is that the birds are most likely going to land into open water, outside of spread and outside of shooting range.

As Jeff E. said, they will land behind your rig, or they won't come over the tops of others to land. A horshoe, or "C" pattern at a slight angle should work (just dont overdo the angle and they will still be coming into the wind for the most part) If that is a morning shot, I would make that "slight angle" just towards the sun so they are looking into when they light and as opposed to a face shot on the bird, you could get a side shot as they light. Just a thought. You can always monitor and adjust...well, depending upon the depth.

I typed that para with the wind blowing in your back. Sorry, I would Use what I said with your position at the "right heel" of the horshoe and decoys further out a bit so the birds circle over the water.
