A family member just got a "brand new" (never fired) Steyr in .270 cal. All that we know on the rifle is it was built in 1986 and has "Steyr mannlicher m. on the barrel, and was originally purchased in Austria. It does have the dual trigger, real nice wood and a twisted barrel. We have the original box and the original test round that came with it. I am interested in what you all think of the rifle and any extra info you might have. Value? Etc? Thanks in advance.

Very high quality rifles. That's the extent of my steyr knowledge. I've seen some synthetic stock one. Does the barrel look finely dimpled/textured? The ones I've seen were, I believe that's what hammer forging looks like before profiling? I'm sure someone knows more.

Model M. $1,500 or so without scope. Same action as the SSG except longer length on this one. Magazines are pricy. Trigger is super. Hammer forged barrel and that is the marks.

If I remember right the standard trigger pull using the front trigger is adjustable and usually set at 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 lbs. pull the rear trigger and it sets the front trigger to 1/2 to 1 1/2 lbs for the shot.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

EBF is right. This is a model M. PRice is 1500. Capable of .3 in at 100. Best of the Austrian rifles. Built for precision shooting. My M model will shoot 1.5 inch group at 300yds.
