Spent a few days at the lease before Thanksgiving. Didn’t take me long to figure out I have a serious pig problem!! LET THE FUN BEGIN!!!!!!!**********

Saturday morning I pulled the game cam cards and found these two pics. First one I thought was cool because you usually don’t see pigs and deer in the same pic unless it’s the deer hauling *** the other way. And the next pic it looks like my feeder has become a swine nursery. bang

That afternoon I hunted my only south wind stand and had about 8 pigs come in about 4:30. They were all about 50-60 pounds so I waited to see if a bigger one would show up but that never happened. Since I couldn’t kill one big pig I decided to see if I could get a two for one shot on the smaller ones. I lined up two of them and let one fly. Sure enough when the smoke cleared there were two pigs laying stone cold dead under the feeder banana. I got out and pulled them out of the way then got back in the stand since I still had 2 hours of day light. Just before dark that same group decided to return for more although this time they were a bit more cautious. Didn’t matter though…….I picked up the 6.8 and threaded a 110 Accubond through the brush and another pig bit the dust. I really like this load in the 6.8!! So far it has 4 pigs to its credit (not a single one took a step after being hit) and a 9 point buck that didn’t even go 20 yards after being hit.

Sunday we still had a south wind so I had to go back to the same stand again. Decided the 6.8 had seen enough action for awhile so I took the 35 Whelen with me this time. About 5pm I had 5 small pigs (what was left from that same group yesterday) come running by me close enough for me to club them with a bat if I had one. I waited for them to get far enough away for me to pick up my rifle and then I lined up 3 of them and squeezed off the shot. Two of them dropped right there and the third crawled up under a cedar bush. The other two were running round not knowing what had just happened so I quietly tried to chamber another round and wouldn’t you know it I short stroked the action and caused a jam with the spent case. First time I have ever done that and by the time I had it cleared the other two had ducked back into the brush. After that I got out of the stand and was going to go stick a knife in the wounded one to finish him off but the little booger decided to get a little attitude and he came at me (honestly I fully expected it and was ready for it). I drew my pistol and put two quick rounds in him and that was the end of him. First time I have ever had a 3 for 1 shot banana woot. The black one suffered the brunt of the damage and he was the one sandwiched in between the other too. There wasn’t much left holding his head to his body sick.

Next afternoon we had a west wind so I went to another one of my set ups. Right at dark I had 5 solid black pigs come in. I waited to line up 2 of them and then let the 300RUM roar. I knew by the sound of the impact that I had a solid hit but when I got down to the feeder I couldn’t find a speck of blood anywhere. Knowing I had a solid hit just by the sound I started looking for bodies and stumbled on some blood then found a black sow buried in a cedar bush not even 30 feet from where she was shot. After that I noticed a second blood trail going up the hill so I followed that one for about 20 yards but the batteries in my light were getting weak so I decided to back out and pick up the trail again in the morning. Next morning I went back to blood trail the second pig and followed blood for about 400 yards before losing it without my prize. Sucks to lose any animal but at least this one was just a pig.

Tuesday I went to fill feeders and pull camera cards. Found this pic of a nice 8 I have been watching for many years now. No he hasn’t been shot……….the feeder is going off and it must have scared the living flush out of him roflmao. One of my favorite game cam pics to date.

Tuesday afternoon we had a light and variable north wind so I hunted the one and only stand that hasn’t produced squat all year. About 6pm the Sow with all the little piglets in the pic above showed up at my far feeder (close to 300 yards away). She immediately caught my scent from when I filled up the feeder and made a quick exit before I could even get my gun up for a shot…………but her piglets stayed behind. Since they wouldn’t follow her back into the woods she had no choice but to stick around however she wouldn’t come out of the brush behind the feeder. After a few minutes I was able to find a opening in the brush big enough to sneak a bullet through and I let the 300RUM work its magic. She kinda stumbled and then was gone. I drove the 4 wheeler down to where I figured she was at when I squeezed off the shot and had a hard time locating any blood at first. After about 2 or 3 minutes I saw a little tiny speck of blood and knew I at least had a hit. I continued to follow the trail for close to 100 yards before I found my piggy. Turned out I had hit her perfect right behind the shoulder but she was quartering to me and the bullet exited the rear chest area on the other side only clipping one lung. I couldn’t have been more proud about that shot as its probably the second longest shot I have ever made and all I had for a rest was a camera tripod. I will try to get a confirmed distance on it with a range finder next time but I would say it was right around 325 yards since the feeder is almost 300 and the wood line is probably another 25-30 yards behind that. She is going to make some mighty fine breakfast sausage!! food

Hopefully I have put a dent in the pigs for a short while. With all the pigs around I didn’t see hardly any deer at all the whole trip and the pigs seem to be getting worse every year. On the bright side though all but the 2 littlest ones have a date with the dinner table and one has already had a date with the smoker. grill

And since I am allowed 10 pics per post how about a pic of my world famous (not really) Evan Williams BBQ Chicken Legs. grin

Great week JCB... thanks for sharing! Agree that 6.8SPC is a great hog round. And in that 6th pic your quadlooks pure EVIL with the blood dripping down across the headlights.
