What exactly do you mean by high quality? Gunbroker, pawn shops, mom and pops gun shops are my avenues for desired firearms.

This site right here is one of the best sources I've found for buying and selling preowned guns. There are a lot of good folks here who have the same hobby, addiction, or whatever you want to call it. You can find anything from $100 single shot shotguns to multi-thousand dollar collectors pieces. Check out the classified section. If you are looking for a specific gun, especially if it's rare, Gunbroker.com is a very good site. Just remember that unless you happen to buy from someone local, ther's going to be freight added, and it will have to ship to a FFL gun dealer, and that will add costs, too. The thing I like best about this site is that you can meet up with the buyer face-to-face to inspect the gun or a lot of guys will ship. I prefer face-to-face because you can hold the gun and inspect it before you buy it. As far as information goes, just do a little research if you're looking for a specific gun, because there's a lot of info here and on chuckhawks.com, as well as the websites for the specific brand gun you may be looking for. That will give you information on the guns. If you want advice about actually purchasing from an individual on this site or others, I have a couple of rules: If possible, meet in a public place, like the parking lot of Cabela's or something. I once met a guy to trade guns in the parking lot of a shopping center that included a bank. That was not a real wise choice.:) Try to bring someone else along. In the rare case that something goes bad, you have a witness/backup/getaway driver. Don't meet at the other person's home unless absolutely necessary. Don't buy a used gun or a used car after dark.
Alcohol,Tobacco, and Firearms. Should not be a government bureau. Should be a department store.

My bad for not specifying, by high quality I mean something that will last me a while.i heard to be careful from buying from the owner and that I should buy from the stores because those firearms have been through inspections

I wouldn't rely on a pawnshop or gun shop to thoroughly inspect anything. I'd much rather deal with the actual owner, especially one of the guys from the classified's here.

There's nothing wrong with buying from individuals you just have to know what to look for as far as wear and tare go. There's alot of good decent folks out there but you also have those unsavory individuals but like I said know what your looking for. A little research goes a long way and know your prices. A cracked wood stock on a rifle may not be such a big deal, but alot of play in a revolvers cylinder probably is. What I'm getting at is different guns usually have different issues. You have go be your own best resource and learn what to look for. The guys on here are very helpful if you have any questions. Are you looking for any particular type of firearm right now? Maybe we can point in the right direction.

I don't know how knowledgeable you are about firearms, but here are some basic rules to buying used guns. I am sure others can add to the list. 1. look for buggered screws, that means the gun has been disassembled. why? 2. look for mismatched parts, 3. ask questions, if the answers seem shady or he doesn't know his gun then beware. 4. Buy the gun, not the story. I don't care who supposedly owned it in the past. Kick in guys and give us some more rules to buy by.

Kind of like asking "anyone know where I can catch big fish?". Maybe but I think we'd keep it close to the vest.
You can find great deals right beside bad ones. And anyplace can sell a lemon. Most places do not test fire used firearms. I have seen:
1911 without the firing pin Beretta auto shotgun without the gas puck Henry golden boy without extractor. Tack weld bullet guides in several Saigas Many used Series 80 1911's with the safety plunger removed, no big deal but funny at shops that have you fill out there own safety forms.
So the refund policy is important on used too.
