i like to start out with a lower volume on calm days, as some coyotes may be close, i increase the volume after about 5 minutes if nothing has come in to reach out there...on windy days I start out with a little higher volume and again increase it if nothing comes in right away
80% of coyotes I shoot within the first 7 minutes

Like Davidk said, start low.. You CAN burst their eardrums If it's too loud.. If there's something in the area it'll most likely show up within ten minutes.. If not then I would play with the calls and volume a tad an see what happens ! GOP luck!

I assume you are using an electronic call? If you are interested in trying out mouth calling or are new to coyote calling in general, I might could help get you started. I'm in Tyler, and sometimes go to Quitman, mineola, and other towns west on hwy 80 hunting. Not trying to score a free hunt, I have more fun mouth calling one (or a group) in than even shooting one.

The only thing I can say is that being eye level five feet away from a yote or any predator for that matter is an adrenaline rush you cant replace. You will have a bunch sneak up on you until you can figure out their habits and the lay of the land. But it's still all good fun they'll usually spook before gettin too close.

Set up deek and e-call and set volume to a low setting. Use a mouth call after 30 minutes or so to increase call radius, leaving e-caller on low. Before moving to another stand, we have the sit up and smoke a cig session, with the occasional loud mouth call. We nailed one while conversing and sky-lined on a ridge about an hour and a half after the initial set up a few weeks ago. Sometimes they aren't in a hurry or they have trouble finding your direction.
The e-caller, on low, is best to keep them focused on the decoy when they get close. Mouth calling at that point, to finish, can let them zero on your location. Then your just another Professor at Coyote Survival University, handing out diplomas to educated yotes.
Little late, but my $.02
