i use 12volt batteries on 6volt motors.they dont spin lomg enough to hurt anything, but they will send corn outside the feed pen. learned that trick from my father in law and his model a's.

I've got a cheap, digital, Remington 6 volt that has run continously for 8 years without an issue. It spins 365 days a year and has been incredibly reliable.
Sometimes it's just luck.

I totally agree on the feeders. I am slowly replacing all my timers with spin tech 12volts. The box is solid rectangle and it allows me to attach a solar panel directly to the box with zero exposed wires.
I really like this setup.

The 6 volt Primos Vault for less than $50 is the best deal out, IMO.

Build your own I have just starting to do this myself. I was having problems with coons so I built a metal box got a 6v. motor and use a wild life timer from academy. It is great and will fling corn a good ways. the timer also has a varible spin aswell so you could turn up the rpm's. You might also look at moving your plate down to allow for debris to come out. When you do this shorten your feed time to supplement the amount of corn that comes out. dk.

West Texas feeders 12 volt. Have had 6-7 on our place for 3 years and never had them not feed. HAVE NEVER CHANGED BATTERIES! Just as long as you keep a solar panel on em.

I have two feeders that use a 6 volt battery. I feed year round, twice a day, and have had no problems at all with them in the three years I have been using them. I use Energizer batteries only, and I change them about every three or four months.
