It depends on if there is still food around. If they are eating in crop fields and the crops are harvested a month before the season starts they'll probably be gone.

If they have sunflower seeds around they will probably still be there.

Our wheat was cut in the last several weeks...

Corn is still growing so I will be looking for cut corn fields to hunt as opposed to wheat prior to season.

We do have a large number of residents here thou...

The Coyotes are following the combines waiting for the field mice/rats to run out...So are the birds of prey

Yeah that's such a broad statement. In some cases it's true but others it's not. It really just depends.

J.J.

I have not been out that much, but no Euros....
In Howe where I have been some just Mourning Dove.
Same at my house...About every evening, I can almost set my watch, +/- 5-10 min,
1 lone Dove comes thru at low level on Hi-Hum, SE to NW....
If, I could be sure I had Euros....for sure, I would be doing some pre season shooting...

Just a couple in the drive around noon down here, which is a goodthing, because we don't see many.

We have a fairly substantial poulation year round. Sept comes and it really increases. Here it is water that draws them. The hunting is only good in the evenings, but it is fast and furious. I am assuming the euros are the big dove with the black ring on their neck. We have a few of those plus the ocasional white wing.

Weather, food, water and good roosting area will hold birds and stop new one that come though. The birds will stay around if you have the right conditions but will move on later in the season. The birds around the house every year stay till about the first week or so into Oct. then they disapper. Nobody hunts around the house so little pressure from me thats it, this year the tanks are full, lots of crops in right now and might make the birds move around depending on the time and way they harvest this year. Most local birds will stick around for a few day atleast, but the birds that live close to town will pack their bags and move there to avoid the morning and evening traffic stops in my bird bag.
