The conditions were tough but the calling wasn't! I spent some time with some good friends from the Waco area Ben Hodges and Brian Trussell this past Friday and the wind was howling. We still managed to get it done. Several coyotes hit the dirt and became the next victims of the Carnivore gang and their compadres!
Ben and Brian are the real deal and kill more predators than anyone in their surrounding area. These guys aren't all talk and measure their success based on the shear numbers of animals they kill each season (well into the legit 100's on coyotes as an average, sometimes 200's). We have hunted with numerous guys or groups of guys that "claim" to kill a lot of animals but "talk" is cheap unless you can back it up with a bloody tailgate and pics.
Calling in the wind is like fishing in the rain. Rain jacks with the fisherman's head much worse than it hurts the fish's. The reality is, the fish are already wet! The same goes for hunting predators. If they can hear it, and they are "moving", their gona come to it. Its not always the winds fault that you didn't call anything up but it's the easiest thing to blame for most hunters in these types of conditions.
