Looking to get another rifle and wanted to post a poll. Wanted a smaller rifle, as I was getting tired of toting a 26" heavy barrel gun around the lease.

Which Rifle
single choice

Not long ago I would've voted on the Remington 308... I think Savage is a better gun right now. -Fat

I know, I know....

I sold my ADL Varmint today and going to another one. The guy didn't want the scope or mounts, and it is a Talley 1 piece (I think that is what it is called) that fits a Remington. I have a Vortex HS 30mm scope and need rifle to put it on now.

True. I guess I should put I'm not a Novice by any means when it comes to guns. But sometimes just need a little push when I can't make up my mind aim

Savage .243 is my first choice then. Got one for a friend of mine to shoot 1/2 MOA right out of the box, with 100gr. SGK hand loads. I'd go to battle with it.

Savage .308 is a close second. Nothing wrong with the other choices though.

Yeah, the Savages are hard to beat I think. I kick myself for selling my Weather Warrior in .243 a couple of years ago. I got it for one particular deer and one of the guys on the lease shot him opening morning, bad shot I might add and he never found the deer and he was never seen again or on camera, and I wound up selling it the next week and went back to bowhunting. I did shoot a spike that opening morning with it at 200 yards, neck shot and dropped on the spot. It was a MOA for sure.

.308 with 110gr Vmax, or Hornady TAP (seem to perform the same, maybe they are the same)

Little recoil, and makes J..E..LL...O as Bill Cosby would say, on the inside of a deer and hogs. It does really bad things to coyotes, bobcats, and jack rabbits.

Yes pretty much the same bullet. Is that what you are reloading? My last couple of 308's, I was using 150 grain BTs, but have some TTSX and some other bonded bullets. Using Varget and get good small groups with that powder.

My biggest problem over the years has been finding a MOA rifle and then letting somebody talk me into selling it for a profit. I had a great 308 once that could put 5 shots into the same hole and somebody at the range gave me 300 more than I had in the gun and I handed it to him and went and bought another gun.

Stupid I was.....
