Well, I made my yearly 2300 mile round-trip to my dad's farm in SE MN for the MN firearms season, which ran Nov 3rd-11th. I was up there in May putting in food plots, improving stands, making bedding areas, and other odds and ends for deer season.

Opening day I saw 5 bucks in the first 30mins of shooting light, so I was excited how the day would turn out. This guy came through at 10:49a.m. and gave me a 30yd shot that I could not pass up. At the shot, the buck bolted but only made it 20yds before doing a somersault and expiring:

I was hunting alone, so I had no photographer but myself explaining the absence of my mug in the pics.

I took my wife out a few times after opening day as it was her first year hunting. I hunted my FIL's farm, but action was slow so I took her back to my dad's where we saw 4 bucks, with one being a 135-140's 8 pt. He was too far away (160 yds) and we lost light. I took the video camera, but I was so excited that she might shoot the deer, that I forgot I had it and didn't get anything on camera... hammer I guess that's why we do it though!

Minnesota is a shotgun only state and I bought a Savage 220 for this trip, and was excited to break it in. On Nov 10th I went doe hunting and killed a doe at 98 yards with the 20ga. I was weary about terminal performance of the 20, but the 3"Trophy Copper slug penetrated right behind the shoulder on the front side, through the opposite shoulder, and exited completely. The doe went 10 feet and expired. My wife didn't get anything, but with the two deer I was able to take, we came back with over 120lbs of venison. I can't wait to do it all over again next year. Thanks for reading!

Correct, zone 3 where I hunt is shotgun only. Sorry for the oversight.

To pose the deer like that a lot of times the hunter will let the deer freeze in the position he wants it.
