I haven't hunted deer in over 5 years. I wear glasses and it sucks having to pull them off to use bino's. I know the simple solution is to wear contacts but I don't want to! In the past I would just hunt without my glasses on so it was a non issue. Now my eyes are worse and I can't see distance like I once could. Open for logical solutions but mainly wanted to rant about getting old! It's better than the alternative right?

My nikon monark binos have eye cups that you twist to extend a half inch for use. While I am wearing glasses I just leave them not-extended and they work great. similar to these.

Getting my eyes zapped was one of the best single expenses I ever spent on hunting. No fogged glasses or having them spot up in the rain. My eyes don't reflect the sun either(missed an old gobbler that way once).

My Leupolds have eyecups that you extend for normal use but leave down for use with glasses.
Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

I wear glasses and I use a pair of Leupold Acadia 10x42 and they work great with the glasses. Just adjust them and your good to go, I tried half of them at Cabelas before I found these.

Had lasik several years ago. Didn't work for me. Id fact, it's worse... A lot of the "its worse" crowd had lasik done when they were "too old" to have lasik last for a long time, as the lens inside the eye changes as we age and sometimes within a few years of having lasik the lens changes the prescription in your eye such that the lasik "doesn't work"... Having said that, some people have lasik done when they really weren't good candidates to begin with and have a bad result, and a very rare population of people have lasik and just have a bad outcome. Don't need to know your details. But, the far majority of people who have laser vision correction would do it again in a heart beat and love the outcome. To the OP...if you say you are getting too old and your eyes are not what they used to be, you are probably too old for a long lasting LASIK outcome. However, there might be other options. See an eye doctor and get checked out at least annually, and see if there is anything surgical they could recommend aside from glasses.

I can't hold the paper far enough away to read it without glasses.

Thanks everyone for your advise! I am 48 and not going blind just normal loss of vision. Recently had my eyes checked and I could tell trying to read the chart that my eyesight was getting worse. The dang eye chart looked like it was in chinese instead of english! lol I guess I could get some old granny chains and put on my glasses which would make it easier going from glasses to bino's. Might as well as I guess my memory will be next? Sure we can put a man on the moon and invent a blue pill but we can't find a cure for eyesight diminishing other than going under the star trek laser?

Well, not quite the only cure. You should be able to either correct your vision with glasses change or there should be another cause for the diminished vision. You are right in that age where you are really kinda old for LASIK to work for a long time; you might get 15 years or you might get 5 or less before you start developing cataract type changes in your lens which would change the prescription in your eyes negating some of the LASIK effect. However, you should not have to suffice with subpar vision. Being 48 does not mean poorer vision, maybe different vision but not poorer. Sometimes a revisit or a second opinion from an eye doc can mean all the difference. Just my two professional cents....

See an eye doctor and get checked out at least annually, and see if there is anything surgical they could recommend aside from glasses. Hit the nail on the proverbial head...if you can see it! LOL! About 20 years ago, the procedure was RK -radial keratotomy, but I opted to go with contacts. The two things I noticed immediately was my depth perception changed....and....no more fogging or wet glasses! The technology for contacts has changed rapidly and dramitically the past few years so to not consider contacts is unusual these days. I am now too old for LASIK surgery, but my eyes have also been improving as I have aged! Doctor said that is fairly common for people who are near-sighted (cannot see distances). So, if you do not want or cannot afford Lasik, try the contacts - you will be surprised!

Memory was the second thing to go and I can't remember the first. Has anyone tried crystal lens implants?
