I've seen the them lightly used for $300 on armslist and texasguntrader.
I haven't jumped on the 300blk waggon yet but I may in the future.

Ive been told 300 BO is about the same as the 30-30 so why not just stay with the 30-30. I figured ammo would be alot more common.

Unless you're going to suppress it, a 30-30 would be a better option.

Ive had 3030. The 300blk is a reloaders wet dream. You have a way more bullet choice. Brass is more common then 30-30. It's just belled 223 brass. Every range in Texas has atleast one 5.56 brass laying around. The 30-30 is an old blackpowder round made smokeless. While the power of the two are close. They are day and night in what they are. 300blk plinking ammo is $12 a box of 20. Try and find that price for the same quality 30-30.

I'm gonna show my ignorance here, but what's so great about a 300 BO? Looks very similar ballistics to .30/30, and 7.62x39mm
I've got some research to do...

I've got some research to do... Main reason: It can be used in the AR platform. It fits existing mags and requires only a barrel to convert an AR from 223 to 300blk. The brass is the same between 5.56 and 300blk. 300blk subsonic is also useful. 30-30 is also a bigger overall round. The 30-30 was made for level actions. 300blk was made for AR's. Wiki has the max range of the 300blk is 500yards. Wiki has 30-30 with a max range of 200yards. How they figure that IDK. One might be military hit distance vs hunting distance. 7.62x39 requires a banana looking mag to be able to feed. It also has a slope. Which helps extraction in dirty AK. It doesn't fit the AR platform very well. Plus it's a third world commie round made for a loose fit AK. You can compare the ballistics between every round made. Lots are close. It the platform that the round was developed for that make the round. If you really want to make a long thread, say that the 357mag is a better choice in a M1 carbine vs the 30carbine. 45acp vs 45gap....243 vs 7mm08...

I've got some research to do... In a single shot rifle the only advantage of 300 BLK over 7.62x39 or 30-30 is the availability of factory subsonic rounds. If you handload then that isn't an issue.

You can buy federal 170gr lead tip 30-30 for $11.00 a box at wal-mart and several other places.....I have 5 boxes sitting in my closet. Also as stated above the 30-30 was the first smokeless cartridge....Teddy Roosevelt remarked at its high velocity.
