I've been looking for a lab pup I found some that were a little older then I want. Somebody told me to try traders village. Ive been there but I dont remember if they had full blooded dogs. Do they have any pure bred's? And are they cheaper? I think if I got one I can train it reguardless of it's blood line.

Never heard it! I'll have soem 500-600 in January! Taking deposits now....

You can train a dog regardless of its bloodline, but the dogs have to really be smart. Sometimes if they can't get to the duck, they have to be able think outside the box and figure out a different way...

I had a dog one time that was with my good bloodline dog... we were inside of a pen with the gate open but we through the toy on the other side of the pen, while my good bloodline dog knew she needed to go out the gate and go around to get it, the other dog just jumped up and down at the fence wondering why he couldn't get it..

It's just a difference in the quality of the dog for what you want the dog to do. If you want an intense hunting dog, you might want a nice bloodline, if you want a dog that is just a nice pet, any dog will work!

What has not been mentioned yet isn't the pedigree or the bloodline that proves the dog will get the duck, bloodline doesn't mean the dog will be smart or stupid, it provides a blue print of the pup, should provide a health history and an insight to the pups potential. You need to know the pups parents have their health clearances, grand parents, and so forth.

I just dont have that kindof money for a dog, more in the range of $200 to $300 maybe. But if I did then I would in a heart beat. I just want a good bird dog/ hunting and fishing budddy. I hunt almost everything in Texas beside duck. I dont know my ducks and and cant risk a ticket sense Iam going to school to be a game warden. If I did or went with someone who did I would go it seems like a blast. I just heard that about traders village from a family friend who doesn't hunt so they really dont know what Iam looking for. I was just wondering if it was worth checking into, or if anybody has ever got/seen the dogs there. Thanks yall for saving me the trip. Ill keep looking.

I doubt anyone reputable would sell their pups at the flea market but I could be wrong. Just seems like a good place to find a bunch of back yard breeders and you won't have a clue what you are getting.

There's a free 1 yr old on this site. Sounds like that's what you need.

Has anyone gone down to the animal shelter on I30 and Westmoreland and looked at the hunting breeds they have there. Lots of people just give them up because they don't have the room to keep them or they only wanted a new puppy. I picked up a partly trained Brittany a few years ago for about $60 if I recall. She did really well on quail. I have a 16mo. Brittany male that is great on quail but doesn't like the water. I may have to go there and see what they have.

Please do not buy a dog from a flea market.

I've learned three things through the years when it comes to purchases like hunting dogs and such....

1. Research, research, research (dog breed, breeder, pedi, medi, etc.)

2. Be patient. (Don't think the dog you think you have to buy is the only on God ever made)

3. Be prepared to spend more money than you've initially planned to spend.

As a side note, I've always heard flea market pups tend to be lower quality dogs all the way around, but then again, there might be a diamond in the rough out there some where.

And I'm just going to say that $200-$300 dollars is a little low for a good lab pup, but again, there are some diamonds in the rough waiting to be discovered.

Good luck finding that right pup, happy hunting, and when you get to be a LEO, don't be a hard-a.

the initial price of the dog is very small amount compared to the amount your going to spend on the hound training and caring for it...spend the 200-300 up front

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

In my experience , which is very little, labs either got it or don't. Getting one with a quality pedigree just helps your chances that the dog will perform. That being said, I've also seen dogs with no titles in their background that do great. But that has been with patient people that train themselves. I personally like to increase my chances with a pup that has some background. My 2 cents.
