Anyone have a rut report from San Saba, Richland Springs area?

my guess is the rut is now rocking full speed, but just seeing what you guys are seeing/hearing. IMO, this cold front sent it into a new gear........

thanks

I was in San Saba last weekend. Way too windy. Just saw a couple of does and smaller bucks. And then...

Sunday around 11am, I decided to call it quits and close my hog traps (rancher makes us keep them closed when not in use). Driving my ATV around the corner and in the middle of the field is a big ole 8 pt. Couldnt get my gun on him but he was walking around in the middle of the day in a place I've never even seen a deer before. I think the rut is just getting started out there.

We were in Cherokee, TX last weekend and LEGION shot a nice 9pt. chasing a doe across Cherokee Creek.
We also witnessed several young bucks cruising.
Probably not a ton of doe in heat this week but this weekend should look good.

I was down there last week. They were just starting to sniff and slightly run doe. I wouldn't say its in full swing but I bet its picking up pretty good by now. Especially with the front that moved through.

I'll let you guys know tomorrow. I got here this evening and seen about 30 deer just driving along the county road along the ranch. Lots of deer everywhere!

It makes me extremely nervous driving down there at night. lol. Im kind of a speed demon, but I slow it way down when I get into that country. Lots of deer roaming the roads.

And after I shot the 9pt, a small 4pt popped out looking for the doe too.

I seen about seven bucks today but didn't really see any of them chasing doe. They mingled with the doe but weren't harrasing them. I had a young ten at my feeder this morning and had two doe and a yearling come out by my stand, the buck just looked at them and continued eating.

I ended up shooting my dream buck this evening, not the biggest or oldest buck but he is a nice ten. Anyway, he was with a group of about seven deer that was a mixture of doe and other bucks. I watched them graze in a field for about 20-30 minutes.

Should I post pics here or in the pic section? He isn't huge and only about 4.5 most likely 3.5 years old, but only my second buck ever. Iv'e been letting bucks go the past couple of years and this guy walked out and there was no question that I wanted him on my wall. The pic I have isn't very good and makes him look small. frown I am pround of him though!

I hunt 10 miles down Wallace Creek Rd in San Saba (Past the Jail) on about 1100 acres. We were seeing deer we hadn't seen all year on cams or during bow season. Deer where moving all over the place. We would see bucks at one feeder in the am and on the complete opposite end of the ranch in the afternoon. BIG bucks chasing does at 2pm...stuff I had never really seen before. I ended up shooting a 13 pt (crazy points not a lot of height/width) but I couldn't stop counting points. It was cool. I hardly ever get to Hunt the Rut...and it was awesome last weekend. ONe thing I noticed, almost nothing was coming to the feeders...all the deer where just running around aimlessly

Been going pretty strong since last weekend.
I've got 2 guys there now, and they say it's even better now.
