At the end of last season I left 3 ducks at a taxidermist. This is the first time I had ever gone to a taxi, but did know of a few friends who used this guy for birds. I dropped off the birds and was quoted a standard price for 217 a bird (that price included tax). We also discussed a discount at 200 per bird if I got all three done. Later in the month I called back and told them I only wanted two of them done for now. They said that was ok and price was not discussed. This past month I got a voicemail saying that the ducks were done and that my total was 235. I went to the place to pick my birds up and there was only one mexican with poor english working there. He pointed to a drawer where I saw files for finished birds, I flipped through it myself, found my own and showed the man. He grabbed the mounts and handed them to me. Then I looked at my sheet and it said the total was 235 and that is what the man asked for so I paid him and left. A few days later I got a call from the taxi who actually did my birds basically asking to come back and give him 200 dollars. At first I thought well your mistake your loss, but ultimately I will be sending a check for the 200. I was just wondering what your opinion on this if you were in my shoes would be.

I would pay the original, agreed to price without a doubt.

Agree with ILR

I'd pay the $200/bird and that's it; however, you only mounted 2 not 3 so it'd would technically be 217/ bird

Yea, I would think your bill would be $434 for the two birds. If he did the work, I would feel bad not paying. On a side note, he might want to get better help!

It sucks that his help burned him but you know the right thing to do. He did the work, he should get paid for it. As for the discount, his quote was for the three and you did two, it should have been brought up. If you like the work he did and you plan on using him again is it worth burning a bridge over a 34 dollar discount?

It's biblical, a workman is worth his wages. Pay the man his wages, or answer before the Man.

You agreed to $217 per bird without the additional discount for the 3rd mount. That means you owed the man $434 for your mounts. You know you were charged incorrectly and it was a simple mistake. Not paying would be wrong on your part. I think the only dilemma is him hoping he gets his fair pay. Hope it works out for both of y'all.

You did the right thing. You treated him right and he will remember that.

Good that you paid.
Discount was for 3 total.

Good job paying him what was owed. These type of errors happen on a daily basis and atleast you can sleep with yourself in doing the right thing.

I wouldn't be able to go on about my business knowing the guy was shorted $200. Some people can and wouldn't think twice but I wasn't raised that way.

You did the right thing. If he told you $200 for two and then wanted $400, that would be different. You agreed to a price and you should pay that price.

No question you did the right thing!
Simple mistake. You would want to be treated the same way.

I would have paid him what I knowingly owed him while I was there and then I wouldnt have to be on here asking every one else whats the right thing to do.

The OP did the right thing. But the big part of all this is that there is not one negative comment to do the opposite. Which in this day and age is very refreshing. smile

+1. This post once again reinforces my belief that hunters and shooters are the fairest group of people I know.

Despite the misunderstanding, the taxi was properly compensated for his labor. You have 2 works of art that you can enjoy for many years. It's a win-win situation....which is always better than a win-lose scenario.

You did the right thing. Too bad he didn't offer you the 200/per discount just for the hassle and mix up on his end. Oh well.
