Hello,
I may be moving to Collin County TX (McKinney) in the near future. I have lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula pretty much all my life and love to Bow and Rifle Hunt Whitetail, and want to pass that tradition onto my boys.

Is there decent Public Hunting land in the McKinney Area, or is it all "Pay for Hunting" ranches?

Thanks for any info-
Guy

NO. It's PAY as you go. But you should enjoy our winters a lot more. McKinney is pretty nice. texas

As far as hunting there is not much in Good public hunting. You should be able to find a lease within two hours

There are a lot of hogs around Lake Lavon. You have to get a permit from the corp of Engineers office and it is archery only. Welcome to Texas!

not much luck on hunting public land! On the up side to that, my wife sells real estate in the mckinney/frisco area...have you looked into finding a real estate agent?

There's some public land about 1 hour north of Mckinney. Caddo National Grasslands. You'll need a public hunting permit from TPWD. I think that's about $40.

If you like bow hunting, you also have Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge close by. It is a lottery system for permits, but there are huge bucks on Hagerman.
