I just shot my buddy's 257 Weatherby Mark V the other day. Its a beautiful rifle no doubt. The 257 didn't kick bad shooting $70 Weatherby rounds. Personally, there is no way that I'd pay the money for that rifle or pay $70/box for ammo. I'm not doubting that its a great caliber, but for killing deer, there are much more economical choices. I'd take my 270Win or 7mm-08 any day over it. I'd cry if I put a scratch on a $2k rifle. There are plenty of calibers that will kill deer as effeciently as the 257 Weatherby at a fraction of the price. Just my opinion after shooting one.

It's kinda like the guy who goes into the Mercedes dealership, walks up to the SLS-Class AMG and then asks the salesman what kinda gas milage it gets. If thats a concern you can't afford it, go buy a Prius.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I'd get a Remington SF in 257 before I bought another WBY rifle. Could pull that pretty wood stock on and put a micky stock on it and still be sitting cheaper than the mk5s.

Maybe speaking in a bit of hyperbole but I believe God himself had TX hunting in mind when he allowed Roy to create the .257. Fast, flat, easy on the shoulder and more than capable of bringing down anything that roams this great state. My bullet of choice for the last several years is the 110 gr. AccuBond running a legit 3250 fps thru the chrono...but man seeing the red cloud after pushing a light bullet thru a groundhog at 4000 fps makes me smile every time.

Weatherby guns are not cheap to buy and ammo can cost a couple a bucks more per box than your green and gold mushroom boxes but in the end I doubt you'll regret your purchase.

I love the .25-06 for deer and pigs. The .257 Weatherby does everything a little better than the .25-06 EXCEPT "being inexpensive to shoot".

You can get a 257 in a Vanguard II which is pretty cheap if that's what you are worried about and the shells I used to shoot were $54 a box, not $70. 2 boxes should last a long time.

I will have a 700 CDL SF soon. And I ain't pulling that wood stock. That beauty is staying put.
