Anyone have anything to add here?

All these observations are from cam pics, since my deer are mostly nocturnal due to the heat...
I had been seeing the bucks all grouped up, until this past week. All my bucks on cam the past week were solitary. The bachelor groups have broken up.
The does are still following the bucks to the feeders. Not vice versa.
The buck necks are not swollen up yet, and the hocks are just starting to get stained up, nothing major but enough to where you can start to see it.

It is still a way off, but hoping the cold weather this weekend brings it in...I will be hunting monday afternoon and then again friday pm and saturday am. I am hoping to see some good pre-rut/early rut action.

Anyone else have anything to add?

It seems to be starting up in southern clay. I've seen several bucks chasing and saw a nice buck yesterday around 11am heading across a coastal field with his nose to the ground. Seen a lot of bucks cruising around in the past 3 days. I think they're starting to lose their minds.

+1 to everything you said. I'm hunting near Buffalo Springs and that's what's going on over here. Been in the stand since Thursday and only saw 1 doe during daylight. After dark it's game on smile

I am a hundred miles west of you. Watched two bachelor groups come in to feeders on two seperate days this week. Makes me think rut a no go for now.

It seems very regional. I know in wise county they were saying the does we're being pushed hard, and I saw several deer dead on the roadside along 287 a week ago. So, for whatever reason, clay county seems a little later, but the boys breaking up is a good sign.

It won't be long...come on cold!!

Also remember clay county US twice the size of most of the surrounding counties, lots of varying terrain and environmental conditions.

Exactly. I will update things as I see them, would appreciate the same from everyone. I will be up there Monday and the following Friday/Saturday. Just trying to keep all interested parties informed, and appreciate everyone else's info too!

That's crazy because I'm only 5 or so miles south of buffalo springs.

I rattled in a heck of a deer this morning but he was so close I couldn't move to do anything.

I saw a small scrape on a mesquite tree today as we left from Buffalo Springs. Not much but it's a start.

I bet you will see a lot of action by mid week. There are scrapes everywhere at my place. I bet this cold weather helps out. Which side of buffalo springs do you hunt?

I have lots of scrapes and rubs on my place too, but it doesn't have the scent of estrous does yet. I am thinking late this week or later will be the earliest we see any real chasing, and it may be a week or two later for real rutting...hard to say. But it needs to get cooler. This warm weather isn't helping our cause!

Southern Clay county - watched a pencil horned 15" wide ten point chase a doe at full run for at least half a mile. They passed within 75 yards of my truck. 86 degrees with a 25 mph wind! The rut is on!

The younger bucks are paying a lot of attention to the does but the bigger bucks seem to know its not quite time yet.

X2 seems like 1out of 3 mature deer push and the rest could care less.

Saw a big 8 chasing at 7:15 this morning. Saw a nice tall 10 a little after noon working a doe hard. All together I saw 9 bucks this morning (2 mature) and all of them were either with does or had their nose to the ground.

Thats interesting, I saw four does last evening and one buck. None of the does were being followed and the buck was not trailing anything. Wasn't even nose ot the ground trying to find scent.

I think the does on my place are a bit off yet, and the bucks havent' even had a whiff of good estrous scent yet to be looking for it.

BTW, the buck I saw last night was a young 6/7 pointer, the ones that should be going nuts trying to bust their nuts.

I am hoping for more action this weekend...keep us posted what you are seeing and where you are!

Buffalo Springs update: cameras show some activity during first and last hour of daylight. No chasing caught on cameras yet. I'll be up here all weekend until something dies.
