Just out of curiousity:
What are some preferred dek spreads and conditions that you use the particular spread in?
I've been hunting for years now and have thrown every kind of spread in the book...I think, but I am just curious as to if there are others out there that I might have not done yet and that will help my hunts be a better success.

I always just sep up with the wind, the location, and put my decoys where I don't want ducks, leave a hole, and try to make them look realistic.

What type of spread do you use on a really calm day where the wind doesn't provide the deks with alot of movement?

Always need some movement IMO... Wether it be some type of spinning wing or something splashing some water. Or without the battery power a jerk rig can do wonders! Unless you're in a hole they're comin too anyways...

Nothing better than being on the "x" where you don't need nothing but shells!

Basically the same thing with two of these in the hole you want them to land: http://www.therealdecoy.com/The swimmers bring them right in. I have had teal land by them and then swim in a circle with them until LST and they die...

Look at pictures in magazines of ducks on water or look at the way they congregate on ponds and lakes and recreate it to a t. I just try and have fun with it.
OMG, this is the best slumber party ever!

I don't put my decoys in a specific pattern, I try to mimic what I see when I scout, usually the teal right close to the bank all together and the puddle ducks a little further out with a couple pintails out on the edge

I've tried the broken J pattern and two groups with a "landing" in between but the best I have used is just putting all my dekes in one group with three species mixed up covering an area about 20 yards in diameter. The reason for this is because this was what I was witnessing when I would see a larger group of ducks feeding or resting. Basically just copying what I see them do in real life. It seems to work better than anything I have done so far........They'll usually try to land on the back side so they have to be close enough that you are in range off of the back side of your spread....

What type of spread do you use on a really calm day where the wind doesn't provide the deks with alot of movement? I like wiggle butts in this situation. They add action and are smaller than other motion decoys. I spread my deks out more when its calm, pack them tight when its windy. Also, I like to hunt little points when its calm, then protected cuts when its windy.
