Gun range first. Make sure the un is on. Buck fever is one thing but a gun thats off is worse.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I agree with shooting the gun first to see if its sighted in and if you're comfortable with it!!! Good luck, be safe and have fun!!!

Shoot the rifle first, before you hunt anything. If the first shot is where it should be put two more with it, at least.

Pick up a box of shells exactly like those that the owner of the gun uses. Same brand, bullet type and weight. Return it to him with more ammo than he loaned you.

Go to the range and check zero on the rifle.

When you get in the stand shoot the first doe that you see. Get it out of your system so you can settle down and wait for a buck.

Good luck and have fun.

All very true. Gonna try and shoot it first before we had out and get in the stand. Any other tips? The only thing I've hunted is the jeshua al made (misspelled) in Iraq.

Use the wind to help you, not hurt you. Don't get caught up in all the gimmicks out there, cover scent, new guaranteed deer attractants, newest cool camo blah blah blah.

Corn is the best attractant for deer in general, hot does for bucks. Use the wind and be patient.

^Hunter education course is required for anyone born after 1971, IIRC.

Edit: Yes; 9/2/71 birthdate or younger.

BUT DO THIS, TODAY! Hunter Education Deferral (cost: $10) Allows a person 17 years of age or older who has not completed a hunter education program to defer completion for up to one year. A deferral may only be obtained once and is only valid until the end of the current license year. A person who has been convicted or has received deferred adjudication for violation of the mandatory hunter education requirement is prohibited from applying for a deferral. Take the course by August 31 of the current license year and receive a $5 discount. The one-time Hunter Education Deferral is available at license vendors and went into effect September 1, 2004.

Make sure you show up with a bottle of their favorite cocktail for whomever is taking you...hell of a nice gesture.

Spend some time behind the trigger prior to the hunt... get used to your weapon

have fun and have the right expectations.
expect to enjoy the time in the woods and hopefully watching some of God's creatures.

if you happen to get a shot and take an animal, then even better.
but your best bet is to have expectations that a good time is getting to go in the first place and enjoy what nature throws at you, even if its a rainstorm while you are out in the stand smile

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"
