Prob not the best place to get one. Prob? Hell no it ain't. You can order AK's just about everywhere. Cabelas is proud of there prices. Plus tax on a $450 low end AK....is alot more then a $20 buck transfer fee(Round Rock). Less if you live in Houston. Cabelas is the place to finger the firearm you like. Then you order it through the mail.

Thats what I was thinking, if you can find an AK for $450 even a "bottom of the barrel AK" let me know I'll buy it on the spot.

Prob not the best place to get one. Cabelas is the place to finger the firearm you like. Then you order it through the mail. truth My wife just got a 10/22 with a purple lam stock. We went to cabelas first. She'd stand right at the counter and google the price. When she ask me if the price was good, Id tell her the truth. Mark up is about $20-40. Then tax. If you don't want to wait, then you'll pay a premium. Unlike local transfer(she found one for $20, which is low in this area) Any defect in the product and it go's back to the factory, not the store. Once you order it from a warehouse online. They are out the picture, just like Cabelas. It's between you and Ruger now. Cabela's offers nothing but a mark up to the purchase. Now if they gave me a line of 20% discount for three months on ammo....then yeah, I'd buy from them. (like free oil changes at a dealership after you buy a car) I work for my money....so will they.

Well also if you buy online and there is a defect you don't have to take possession of the firearm. If you deny it they will send it back to where ever it came from. Then you get a refund or they send out another that doesn't have a defect.

Stores like academy will sell you the firearm that's been beat on their rack or banged against the glass counter. The rack at Cabela's....wow.....people beat the crap out of stuff looking at it. Brand new bushmasters being racked over and over. banged with the next one placed back on the rack. $2000 dollar shotgun...treated like walmart's deal of the day. It gives you a creepy feeling. Give me the one in a box, touched only 3 times, factory, FFL, then me.

I checked out the AK's at Cabelas. I was not impressed. The century arms they had for sale were 699 plus tax and had an ugly thumbhole stock. Plus the magazine would wobble.
Cheaperthandirt have some nicer ones for $615. I think I would be better off buying one from another state and paying the $10 transfer fee because that would be cheaper.

I second Atlantic firearms, ive bought several guns from them great service. Better hurry though the price on the AKs i bought just went up $40 over night and its only going higher. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT buy ANYTHING from Cheaper than dirt. Buy online either at Atlantic or another site, leave cheaper than dirt for when you need a box of ammo or something and cant wait for it to be shipped to you.

The AK's are recycled. They all beat rivets on them. Out of any of them. You need to see the AK they built in hand. I'd hit up private adds. See what youre getting. You assemble an AR. You beat together an AK

Appreciate the advice so far yall. Who are some reputable AK private folks putting them together?
I am fairly ignorant to them but I find myself more attracted to them than AR's

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have been looking at the saiga's. For the price I would not mind buying one. What are peoples opinions on them? I am reading mixed opinions.

Saigas are on of the best AK variants you can buy right now. The price is good, and the quality is great. The only downfall is they come is a sporter configuration. You can convert them for about 150-200 bucks. They are one of the most accurate and best built AK's you can buy right now.
Over on the Saiga12 forum, there is a TX gun dealer that is doing a group buy on Saiga 7.62x39's. The price is 330.00 and that includes the tax. Shipping is 20.00. That is a steal for those rifles.

I've always heard good things about the Saigas. However if I were to buy one I'd get the already converted one for $609, otherwise you will be paying later to get it converted. Here is the link to the converted one.
