I'm trapping hogs on a place that has a high number of hungry raccoons which take every kernel of corn from te traps before pig even come by. I need to use something else with the corn that will keep everything off but the hogs. I don't really want to use diesel. What would you guys suggest as a simple easy solution?

Sadly the only thing ive had luck with is diesel. I know you probably dont want to hear that but thats all I can tell you! Its not bad if you have sunlight! The diesel will only stay for about 4 days in the sunlight. Then the coons and deer will get to it

One year we had a problem with this, and we wrapped the entire trap in chicken wire with just a slit in the door. The hogs just kept pushing threw and didnt care, but coons wouldn't.

Diesel is about the simplest and easiest solution there is. May not be the cheapest though.

I don't think you need to SOAK the corn in diesel for it to be effective. Keep a misting bottle full of diesel with you, bait your trap and give the corn a couple of squirts; just enough to make it glisten.

Those are certainly cool traps for greedy raccoon hands, but if one is concerned about the environmental impact of a few tablespoons of diesel (tops) on the ground then surely one lives in an earthen yurt off the grid, does not own a car and would not leave even 55 grains of lead and gilding metal anywhere within the watershed of any of the world's oceans...

Fill a bucket of your choice about 1/2 full of deer corn. (Bucket must have lid)Pour 2 cans of Big Red soda in, 1/2 can of any beer, and about cup of diesel. Find a good stir stick to distribute liquid. Seal lid tightly and place in sun for 3-4 days. Dig a hole about 2 feet or so in the ground where you want hogs to shoot. Pour bucket contents into the hole. Cover the hole with a little dirt. A hog will always come to this.

Either use the diesel, it works really good or get a four inch PVC pipe about 3 feet long. Seal one end with removable cap on the other. Drill holes throughout the pipe big enough for corn to exit the pipe. Fill with corn, screw the cap ion and throw into the back of the trap. You are set

Mix the corn with something sticky. Coons hate it.

Diesel Diesel Diesel , my big brother managed two large game ranches with a bad hog problem and we always used diesel and it worked great , we also used red kool aid , just put it in a five gallon bucket poor in the kool aid (No water) and stir with a stick worked good too.Good luck and should you need any assistance in eradicating any of those marvelous critters drop me a line I'm available anytime smile
