Drake woodie. It zoomed in from the left, flared, and I dropped it practically into the blind. Nobody knew what had happened until it was over - I still remember one of my dad's buddies ask "Wait, who shot that duck?" haha. Was a mighty proud 11 year old at that point!

my first was me and a buddy shot at a pair of pintail drakes. when he said shoot'em, i blasted the first one and racked another shell. as i shot the second shot i heard him shoot at the same time. we had a debate about who shot what, we agreed that we shot at the first bird with the first shot and the second bird with the second shot. To settle the score i taged a Drake Wood Duck the next morning on a solo hunt that took me 7 minutes to limit out 3 woodies and 3 grey ducks.

My first duck was a pair of greenwing teal. It was the first time my brother and I tried duck hunting. It was on public land in Liberty County. My brother shot the first one and it hit the water. We had no dog so I jumped in the small shallow tank to get it. I made it about halfway and my brother whistled. I turned and there was a flock flying right in on me. I squatted down and as they came in I got 2 with 1 shot first shot at ducks ever. They circled around and came in again and the second shot hit 2 more. I was done. There was another hunter there that couldn't believe what he'd just seen and said he was training his dog and hadn't hit anything yet. He let his dog retrieve our ducks. It was awesome.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

My first duck was a drake canvasback. One of my best hunting memories ever. I was out duck hunting with my younger brother, the first time I had gone duck hunting without someone experienced. Some coots paddled along into our spread so I let my brother shoot a couple. I was out in the water picking them up when the can tried to drop down pretty much right in front of me. I shot him, he went down, and I was so pumped. I didn't even know what a canvasback was at that point.

My first was a wood duck drake. It was a couple of minutes after I shot my first coot.

I'm jealous that you guys all remember. I honestly have no clue...I was a punk kid that probably thought I was too cool to be hunting. Kind of one of those deals when you don't know what you have and don't have the prospective to appreciated yet. I was with my dad and really that's all I care about. My dad is now getting up there and is developing health problems to the point I'm worried I may never hunt with him again.
It used to be he would have to drag me to go hunting...then when I first started getting into it probably around 05 he would want to go just as much....but the last few years I'm the one dragging him to go.
I have a daughter well actually two little girls...2 and 5 that I've never had any illusion that they would want to go hunting. Well last Saturday I ended up taking my friends son hunting...my buddy was suppose to come but ended up having drill. Anyway I got home with my ducks and my daughter comes out saying she wants to look at them. I let her pet them and give her a bunch of feathers that are now all over the house...haha. Anyway she said the sweetest thing to me "Daddy...when are you going to take me duck hunting". Wow...it's coming full circle!
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Marcstar, thats awesome man. I think the fact you were with your dad was more important than what the duck was. Most of my firsts in hunting have been with my dad. 1st deer, turkey, dove, quail, squirrel, and now duck. That i will remember the rest of my life.
Thats awesome your daughter wants to go duck hunting. Jump on it man. I have twin 5 month old boys now. I look forward to the day I can take them hunting. Hopefully they can take their firsts with their granddad and I both.

Nice Scooter! I'd like to take that class just for the fun of it! I doubt I'll get any shots at black ducks any time soon.

My first was a Pintail Hen in Houma Louisiana. I was about 11 years old. I also got a BWT hen that day.
Didn't duck hunt for probably 10 years after that. Started again when I was about 21. I am now 25 and completely obsessed with it.

I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Mine was a wood duck drake. Skillet shot him with a load of buckshot, way back in the days of lead when I was a kid in Louisiana. My son got his first duck here on the Barney, a spoonie hen, a beautiful aereol shot, multiple flips.....
