Who missed one this weekend? As high as one can get from killing a nice deer, there really is no lower feeling than missing one. So who missed? I didn't miss this weekend (I didn't shot either) but I have missed my fair share of deer.

Haven't misses yet this year, but haven't shot at one either. Will be out the next couple days though.

I missed one, first ever kill miss in 35 years. Of course I tried a stupid shot, one handed wedged back against the wall pf the blind. Bad tiem to find out that the extra area you cleared is not shootable because of the angle from your window.

I walked up on a hog Friday evening at about 20 yards, put the dot on his ear and shot right over his head. My first miss other than birds and prairie dogs... frustrating.

Bad miss of a big one on Saturday. 125 yards, broadside, shooting out of the truck window with a perfect gun rest between the mirror and the door...and all in front of my 7 year old...who announced it to everyone at the DQ when I stepped away to use the facilities.

Going back to a hunter who left one unrecovered with a bow two weekends ago, we've had five shots taken by four different hunters with only a single doe to show for it.

I didn't miss (didn't even shoot), but my hunting buddy missed a big 11 opening morning (100 yards broadside).

Sunday morning rolls around and guess who shows up, the big 11. Buddy takes a shot at him and missed... Needless to say, he is going to be hearing about this for a LONG time from me. haha

Getting someone to confess to missing is easy. After all, if it's obvious they took the shot, how else can they explain coming back to camp empty handed.

Getting the male ego to admit a need to practice and practice a lot is a much different matter. For some, it's like telling them they need help getting an erection.

Whatever the case, it just leaves more good deer roaming the woods for those who do practice.

When I shoot and miss, I blame no one or no thing other than myself for not practicing enough.

You would be surprised. We have heard shots on our place and finding the fella with an empty shell can be damn near impossible sometimes.

I actually watched a guy shoot, get out of his stand, and then get back in his stand. When I got back to camp, I went to see what he shot and he told me that he didn't shoot...I explained that I saw him and he said "oh yeah, I shot at a bobcat but didn't hit it".

I hear you. There were shots fired on our lease this weekend that no one would confess to. I just keep my mouth shut for two reasons. First, it wouldn't do a damn bit of good to ask them when they last spent a few hours at the range. And secondly (and the best reason), it just leaves more chances for someone else to fill an ice chest and/or hang something on a wall. I only make comments here for the benefit of the discussion.

The best thing you can hear any hunter say is how much they love to shoot their rifle or bow. And it has nothing to do with shooting an animal with it. They just love to shoot it, period.

There is an inaccuracy in this statement. Wound one and you will wish you had missed.

I feel like I missed! Was sitting with my wife, we had some hogs come in, one big boar in the 175-200 lb range. I said you wanna shoot she said no its too far you shoot, so I picked up the gun, chambered a round and was starting to stick it out the window, at the same time another boar came out and the two postured to each other fought for a sec over the sows with boar number one and then they all left... I was bumed.

Sometimes a shot not taken is the best move you can make. Pulling a trigger is easy. Making yourself keep from pulling it can take a lot more thought and effort. It's also much easier to live with yourself after choosing to not take a shot, than to take one and come home empty handed, or even worse, to leave one wounded to die in the woods.

I would tend to agree, however I feel that most/alot/a growing number of hunters now a days only consider that bad if you dont find the rack. I get pretty pizzed off watching shows where they let deer sit overnight when you know darn good and well that the deer will be eaten by scavengers or spoiled long before sun rise.

Good point. How many hunters today hate to loose one for the meat it would have provided.

I will admit it, im 32 and ive shot alot of deer. Never missed one.....and never shot one that i didnt find...til Saturday evening. Me and the misses were going to dinner but i talked her into going to a friends place to sit in the truck and see what came out the last 1.5 hrs of the evening. Low and behold a doe pops out with 30 min of shooting time left...followed by a huge 10 point and a 3 point. I get outta the truck, shoot about 200 yards and miss. Buck runs into the brush, so i walked that way...at about 80 yards he walks out again and i shoot. Found hair and a little blood but no buck. Had 6 people looking for hours and nothing. The next morning i go back and shoot a 300lb boar then see the 3pt and doe but big boy wasnt there. Looked for hours yesterday and nothing. Guess im just gonna have to wait for the buzzards. Im sick...but we have searched every nook of the place and no more blood or anything. Probably spend 15 hours searching plus my friends time that have helped. Honestly i hope he is just grazed but cant get it outta my head that he might be dead.
