Was carrying the trash out. Hear some footsteps so I shine my spotlight and there is a coyote 15 yards away! I draw my gun (just got back home and was still carrying) I wanted to make sure it wasn't someone's dog so I didn't shoot right away. Well by that time it was in front of my shed and I didn't want to shoot. I literally run on top of this thing and it never bolted. Probably less than seven or eight yards. By that time it was in the neighbors yard and I didn't want to shoot by his house and scare the pool out of him
My question is. What is wrong with this yore that he wasn't scared enough to sprit away? If I see him again I will try a little harder to send a bullet through him

Could be anything illness or just a city yote that ain't scared of people. Either way he's dangerous and should be handled accordingly.

Probably had alot of success catching what ever he wanted to eat without getting messed with...he really does need to be out down...i've seen young male coyotes during mating season stand out in an open pasture and not run from me while feeding cattle....i was getting as close as 10 yards from them and that just isn't the norm around here...

Coyotes are losing their fear of humans in town. Out in the country they are more weary because we shoot at them. Can't shoot in town.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Well if I see him again, I will let some rounds fly a little sooner. I just didnt shoot right away when I had the shot because I wanted to be sure he wasn't someones dog. I might set some steel traps in the yard.

Steel traps in the yard will make for great neighbor relations when someone's dog accidentally gets loose. I can think of two specific incidents where utility workers accidentally left gates open and dogs got loose, causing problems. I am not a coyote lover but that fellow might be keeping your rodent problem down.

I'd keep a .22 rifle by the back door loaded with shorts or CB caps. A close-range head shot should do the trick, and the little gun's report is so quiet that it won't bother anyone.
I wouldn't use your carry pistol. You'll shoot up your shed, your neighbor's mail box, and your daughter's kitten.

None of the neighbors that would know about something being caught have a dog. As for a rode t problem...I doubt the coyote is having any affect

Sorry if I misunderstood, but your second statement in the OP you said that you hesitated shooting because you wanted to make sure it wasn't someone's dog, so I thought that you had occasional dogs in your area. I used to live on 241 acres and neighbors dogs came around. Closest neighbor lived exactly one mile from us.
If coyotes aren't eating rodents what are they eating. In most places rodents are their primary food supply.

A coyote that's been conditioned to people sounds like a good bet. Dangerous animal.
Anyone ever heard about a coyote with rabies? I was always told anytime an animal is unnaturally not shy or would approach you you should be wary of rabies. Had a rabid coon chase me into the back of my truck one night.
