Let me first say how impressed I am with this site. It is a wealth of information and I have been lurking the last 2 months absorbing everything I can. I hunted many years ago when I was a teenager and havent killed a Deer in over 20 years, but plan on ending that this weekend.

I've got a couple of different small pieces of property to hunt - the smaller property happens to only be about 50 acres and is wooded and on a river. Several years back a guy built a house on a field to our South and has a few acres of farmland that border us. I only have one blind on my place which has been there for years and happens to be about 20 yards from the fence. He stuck a feeder about 5 yards from the fenceline basically in his backyard and he draws them out of our land. Now, I dont own these deer, as I understand the state does. But, this still is something that I dont feel is very neighborly. He has said in the past (from what Ive heard) that he is not hunting them, his kids like to watch the deer. Im not really buying that, since there are Bow targets all around their place. Ive made my presence known and I have not noticed alot of activity around his feeder lately and he may have even stopped feeding it. What would be the correct way to go about handling this situation if he does continue to feed there? Or am I just getting concerned over nothing?

Thank You!

Not much you can do...its on his land.

I would pay little to no attention to it. Grand scheme of things deer prefer cover over open feilds

Sounds like you have someone to pay your corn bill....just make sure you aren't in his line of fire, and shoot before they cross the fence

Most people who live in the country and have deer will put a feeder up at the house. It is very common. I would not let it bother me.

Become great friends with him....even if you don't like him. If you shoot a deer and it hops his fence, and you have made him an enemy, he won't let you retrieve the deer.
I would have a bbq and invite him for GRILLED STEAKS.

Just because you don't buy it doesn't mean it's not true. One property I hog hunt we have the feeder set for the middle of the day so a 91 year old farmer who doesn't hunt can watch deer and other critters.

Welcome aboard!

If he's not shooting across your fence, then there's nothing you can do. It is common for folks to feed dee in their yards, so it may be true, and if he is killing a few that don't hurt nothin'. I like to be friendly with people especially niebors. Y'all may need eachother some day.

Great, looks like there is a consensus. I appreciate the feedback. Id rather be friendly with him anyways. I can see his point of view better now and my thinking was a little one -sided. Thats why I posted the question. Appreciate the help.

Welcome aboard!

Here's a similar situation and how it was handled. My neighbor uses my fence as one side of his feeder pen since he runs cattle on his place. My land has the woods and creeks and his land is wide open. So if I believed it i would say he is hunting my deer. The way i really see it though is he keeps the deer walking down the fenceline. This gives me an advantage because I know where the trails are on my place. I never hunt my own feeders I hunt the trails to his feeder.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Welcome....
I'd say get to know the neighbor. You never know when you may need an extra set of hands with something on your place and having a friend close like that is always good. Besides, you only have 50 acres., not like the deer are going to 'stay' on your place anyways.

Ultimately not much you can do. Use him to your own advantage if possible

Put up a high fence and fence him out. 50 acre high fence hunting ranches are the in thing right now anyway. bolt
