Went huntin out in East Texas this weekend and learned a lesson.
Saturday morning I had a bunch of Doe's around but the bucks were chasing hard so I wanted to use them as bait rather than take one, so I figured I'd take a doe sunday morning if I didn't see a buck. Then I saw a monster, but as most do, came and went, out of range. Sunday morning, I saw a nice 8pt. May have been 'average' to some of you...but this is east tx, and I haven't shot a lot of big deer (rifle or bow) so an opportunity to shoot the biggest buck of my life with a bow, was awesome. He was chasing some doe about 75-80 yards away and they all ran off into the woods, so I thought there was no chance. Then I had a young 4pt walk out about 25 yds from me, and I was hoping the big 8 would see him and try to get him out of the area. And he did. The 8 came in about 30 yards from me, broadside, head down, eatin acorns. I drew on him, only to realize my release was too far up on my wrist, so I couldn't get a clean release and didn't want to torque my hand and make a bad shot. So I readjusted it, and as soon as I drew on him again he started walking after some doe away from me and wasn't stopping. I was so mad it was comical. So I learned my lesson, make sure my release is situated correct! Just writing this makes me angry. I'll prob only have 2 more opportunities to deer hunt this year, hopefully he's still there in a couple weeks.

That's what I love about bow hunting. Just the slightest little thing makes the difference between getting a good shot off or not taking one at all.

Agreed. I was talking to my FIL, and he is a rifle hunter, but will shoot a crossbow to get an extra month of hunting. He was saying how it may be easier to use a crossbow etc. I was telling my wife, thats the difference between us, he uses a crossbow to hunt longer, I use a bow for the challenge and as a benefit I get an extra month of hunting.

Last Yr I was out bow hunting and drew down on the biggest buck I have ever seen. When I drew back my DL Mod slipped and added 3 inches to my DL. So instead of takein a chance I let him walk. Just so happens he wanted to bed down about 50 yrds from my blind.

As bowhunters, that's why you should, especially in a stand for the first time, take a practice draw and make sure there isn't anything that will interfere with your bow, like a limb just above your head. Then, each time you get back in that stand, attach your release to your bow and give it a tug. Don't have to draw all the way back, just a good tug. That will make sure your release is where it should be.

I'm constantly worried about my release placement on my wrist. It just eats away at me while I'm in the stand.
Is it too far forward? Too far back? Too right? Too loose?
I think I may be little OCD!

That's why I love bow hunting. Anyone can shoot a deer from a 100 yds with a rifle (not bashing any rifle hunters, I've done it). But to have deer walking right underneath you and your trying to get yourself in position to take a shot but at the same time but your not wanting to scare off anything. To feel that kind of rush, there is nothing like it.

that too is why I use the buckle....can put it in the same hole and be confident it will fit the same way everytime....At least that is MY experience!!

A buckle will be my next purchasse for the bow and the velcro will live out its days as an emergency back up in the bag.
