With all the talk this week of buck chasing does already, I figure the rut will be in full swing by opening gun weekend. I don't remember it being this early. So, what does it mean? Cold winter or ........

My place is not showing and chasing yet, bucks are still grouped up but did see some sparring going on...

Saw a nice Hays county buck trailing a doe yesterday morning. Not early for this area, just about right compared to other years.

We've had lots of chasing going on for a couple of weeks in Mills but saw my first mature buck trailing a hot doe Friday afternoon late. I call it the stupid stage. grin

It seems the youngsters always start pestering the does early. Nothing too unusual so far...

I saw a buck chasing a doe this weekend, I heard bucks fighting and my nephew watched a buck mount a doe and breed her. All of this took place on Saturday. I wouldn't say that the rut is in full mode, but it is on. This activity was seen in Jack and Wise county.

Saw a bunch of chasing on the Mills Hamilton county lines this weekend. Almost hit a 160s 10pt with his nose to the ground this morning. Earliest i can remember.

Trinity County yesterday there were some nicer bucks moving around midday & in the stand later smaller scrapper bucks were nose to the ground moving around a bunch. Does are starting to get pretty good dark spots on the hocks & acting a little hinky.

Saw a couple of very active scrapes. It should be ramping up even more pretty soon.

In Robertson County this morning, every buck I saw, with the exception of a spike was chasing doe around. The first one of the morning, a wide, 4.5 year old 8 pointer, was actively persuing a doe. It does seem a little early this year, but with a below freezing temp, it had the deer moving a lot...through noon.

Saw a deer work a scrape this morning and continue on without eating, looked like he was crusing, saw bucks together last night. Who knows. It usually happens in the first 2 weeks of rifle here anyway so it isn't too early if it is early at all.

My work takes me onto ranches in Hood county and they are definately starting. I saw bucks all day today following does(not running the snot out of them yet). I saw atleast 5 bucks today between 130 and 160 that had a doe close by. Having said that I saw 3 of the biggest deer I've seen all year bedded down together yesterday. I can't wait to get in the stand on Saturday.

Good luck Cborden. We're close by. Haven't seen any signs of chasing yet. A couple of rubs, that's about it. Acorns are everywhere. Good luck, man.
