Just curious. I have always hunted in Menard on a friends lease with no antler restrictions, although we managed the deer well.

This year I am hunting in a county where there are restrictions.

My curiosity was spiked this weekend as a dad at the gas station told me a story about taking his son out in Young county (where the restrictions apply) and the son harvested a 2-3yr old basket 8, that was no where near outside the ears. I asked him if that was ok in that county and he said Ofcourse it was first deer. I paid for my gas and went on about my business, but I cannot find any clear determination in the current game book.

So, my questions is, Does the restriction apply to the youth weekend or youth hunters as well? I am somewhat frustrated when youth weekends turnout to be shoot the first thing that walks out rather than train them to manage the heard. When I was hunting in Menard we didn't let anyone shoot anything that wasn't outside the ears and at least 5yrs old.

Just curious to those that hunt in restricted county's as this is my first time to experience this.

Thanks,

Absolutely, same law applies to your first or on hundredth deer.

That has always been one of the arguments against the AR`s...telling a child he cant shoot their first deer because their horns are not big enough and it will "create a imbalance in the age structure of the deer heard"...LOL..Yes he let his son shoot a illegal deer...

I'll let redneck_mesiah come tell the whole story, but he saw first hand a ticket our neighbor had for a 12 and 3/4 inches OLD deer in Red River County, ... so much for the "no mature less than 13" or "game wardens give you a break"
