Looks like we got us a new lease in Coleman Co. just north of Coleman city. My buddies checked it out this past week end and say it's a keeper. I'll be going out here soon. Hopefully we'll be on this one for awhile, it sucks moving all my gear back and forth. Looks like there's lots of deer, dove, some turkey, and quail. Don't know about hogs. Wait, it's in Texas, there's hogs! The lease is about one thousand acres, with about half a dozen tanks. I'll post pics when I get back.
Do any of you hunts out that way?
Were's the best place to eat in Coleman?

PP, the wife and I have an eatery in Coleman that everyone that has been here says its really good. We're not the normal place because we offer more health foods like a really good chicken salad, (To kill for), and a soup of the day and several deli sandwiches to choose from. Good atmosphere and no smoking. Its called Sara's Neighborhood Eatery. Located one block off the square on Commercial (main drag) inside Tracy's Place gift shop. Just ask and most know where it is. Open from 11-2, Tues-Fri. We offer a different menu every week and a feature sandwich everyday. 325-636-8499

Its called Best Fryed Chicken & its awesome.

A BBQ place just opened on the south side also called Our House Caitering, they came from Valera.

Dont listen to what "others" on here say & try Hildagos before you listen to them.

Also durring the day (11-2), try Cool_Hand's wife place for a great sandwish & soup.

There are also chains like DQ, Sonic & Pizza Hut.

Papa Paynes(formerly Bullwhips) on the north side of town for BBQ.

If its durring their hours( http://www.owldrugrx.com/fountain_and_grill.htm) , Owl Drug store has AWESOME burgers!

If you are willing to make a small trip, you can head to Lowake Steakhouse just south of Ballinger for some great steaks & cold beer.

Our family ranch is just north of your new lease. We're east of Novice. I think I know which ranch you got. There are some really nice bucks around the place you have. Lots and lots of hogs too!

Sounds like you got a nice lease. I'm looking forward to seeing some feeder pics. Maybe you can do some bow hunting on this one.

I hunt with Paulpaul. My screen name used to be Mills_Cty_Hunter. The thing I like about this new 1000 acre place is there will only be 3 of us on it, not 8 like on our lease last year in San Saba. I was very disappointed in the San Saba place as far as the deer herd. When we got the place last year in San Saba I thought we had found the ultimate hunting lease. Nice cabin located on the bank of a spring feed creek, good fishing, hogs, turkey and deer. But we found a 2006 copy of a Cherokee Game Management deer herd survey in the cabin and the survey estimated there were only about 50 deer on that 1100 acres and I think they were off by about 15 or so. Very few deer on the San Saba place. This new lease has lots of deer. For me, this biggest thrill of going to my stand is waiting on some movement and then watching the deer and see what all comes in. I love it and I can hardly wait for the season to start. My son built a bad arse game cam that we set up in the back yard here at home and it took over a 1000 pictures and the battery was still at 100%. It has 2 solar panels with a 12 volt motorcycle battery. So I will be able to take 1000's of pictures this year.

I have to add "The Corral" for great burgers, good ckn fryed steak & their breakfast is pretty good too.

Lytle Land & Cattle Comp. in Abilene is one of my fav places...on friday & saturday night, the drink special is a pitcher of your fav beer for under $5. Food is dang good too.

We hunt just south of Coleman near Santa Anna. We have 2200 acres and love it. We are covered in deer, covered in Turkey, covered in Dove, have a few quail, and a bunch of rattlesnakes. I think we killed at least two per trip every time we went last year during the hot season. Once deer season came, we really didnt see them very much. We have a buddy that hunts on the north side of town by where you are, and he really likes it. Funny thing is, he has hogs, but we have absolutely none. Weird. I shot two good deer last year in the mid 130's. One had 7 1/2" browtines and one was a wide 8 that was 21" wide. I anxious to see what the future holds with all the young bucks we have. Good luck to ya and hit me up if you need any help with anything.

If any of you get close to the 279 hwy bridge on Lake Brownwood stop in at Destiny's Grill Close to Corina's Mexican restaurant. I have yet to find anything on their menu that wasn't great. It is a small place but worth it in my opinion. The Best BBQ in Central Texas is Big O's hands down. I have never left there hungry and the Rib Eyes are awesome.
