Have a cz 527 carbine in the 7.62x39 and would not hesitate shooting a deer with it it. Choose the ammo properly and you are good to go. I love it because of the price of ammo and availability. I shoot it in my ARs with the 7.62x39 uppers. If others want to pay more for their new and late great round have at it. I just can't afford it and I like to know I can get the common ammo when I want for a cheaper price. How do you like that CZ 527? Accurate? I have looked at those and they seem like a cool gun.

Really like the CZ 527 rifles. The one I have is a 223, but have shot them in 22 Hornet and 204 Ruger. All 3 have easily been sub MOA with factory loads. See no reason with good ammo for them to be any different in the other calibers. One of these days hopefully CZ will offer it in 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC.
Smooth little actions and that single set trigger is sure sweet.

123gr vmax thru a 18" barrel on my ar is the cats a$$. Thevright bullet is the issue avoid fmj and use hunting bullets and the deer will ride in the truck just fine.

I loved my 7.62x39 AR much more than all the 300 Blackouts I had except for breaking bolts and not feeding Wolf HP worth a crap. It was an amazing shooter with the cheapest ammo and a decent scope hovering right around MOA. With .310 diameter 123 grain Hornady SST bullets, it was a terror on pigs and the pointy bullets fed like butter - pointy bullets are the key to success in most AR47s.
ARP makes a nice "SuperBolt" that's made out of much stronger alloy steel specifically for the 7.62.39 that is the bomb. I will build another one someday with one of those bolts.

While I've always thought this would do well as a single shot pistol round I've never thought much of it a rifle round. I've only shot it in semi auto platforms and found it begging for accuracy. My only hunting experience was watching a friend put two 125 grain soft point rounds into the shoulder of a Whitetail Buck at about 50 and 65 yards, we trailed that buck for over 600 yards before it got over the neighbors fence. The neighbor found it two days latter at a water hole about a half mile further into his place. I would not have shot that buck where he did but then I never would have expected it to travel that far after two round to the shoulder either. Don't expect it to be a caliber I'll ever own.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I think I would buy one in Rossi or NEF just to have one. Might be a fun little gun. After reading the 22 Hornet thread, I want one of those too.
It ain't easy being me.

Wow, I'll stick to my bolt actions and save my AK for the zombies.

I will have to get some vmax. As far as the 527 cz would not trade it. Have and had a lot of guns and it is a keeper

It is just about my favorite all around caliber. Launch it from a capable platform and make sure you're using a quality projectile and I doubt there's an animal in this state that couldn't be taken with it. The Vmax bullets are great, I killed several hogs with them out of my Mini 30 and Yugo AK. I also had great luck with Wolf Military Classic hollow points. Unlike the other combloc HP ammo it actually has a notched jacket and will fragment reliably on impact. As others have stated it is very similar to the .30-30 with a flatter trajectory.

under a 150 yards they will do the trick once you know point of aim vs point of impact. Practice, Practice, Practice....
Shot placement.

Have killed a few deer with that round from an SKS. It is not my first choice with the low Sectional density of the bullets that I see mostly but will get the job done. Cabela's has Herters steel cased 154Gr soft points for less than $5 a box of 20 now. Would not hesitate to use those on hogs any time. +1 I have used the Herters 154gr SP on quite a few hogs and it does the trick. It is also way more accurate in my SKS than any 12x grain ammo I have tried, half-dollar to baseball size groups vs softball to pie plate patterns. I would not hesitate to use if for deer within a hundred yards or so, and probably will if the hogs start coming out in during shooting hours like that did late last season. -ww
A thousand reasoned opinions never equal to one case of diving in and finding out.
