The millions of ducks and geese pouring down the Central Flyway to Texas and the state's 100,000 or so waterfowlers heading afield for the 2012-13 duck and goose hunting seasons, which open Nov. 3 in the eastern two-thirds of the state, will encounter more of something both groups found in short supply a year ago. "The big difference is the amount of habitat out there," said Kevin Kraai, waterfowl program leader for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. "There's lots more than there was last year, and a lot of it's in very good condition. That's great news for the birds and hunters." more: http://www.chron.com/sports/article/With-habitat-vastly-improved-Texas-hunters-can-3979357.php

"No water. No food. No ducks. That's what we saw last year in East Texas," Jared Laing, Tyler-based waterfowl specialist for TPWD, said of the situation in river bottoms, reservoirs and other wetlands of the forested eastern third of the state this past year. I'm so glad we have these experts

What the heck is he talking about?? All my holes are dry, don't know about everyone elses but...
This Kevin guy apparently hasnt been in Texas drought long....ther's a lot more of what, dry river bed? Now granted the plants that the birds eat on are replinishing and growing cause of no rain so whenever it comes the food source is going to be great but right now just not seeing it.
Hope he is right though!!

I’m a little confused. I checked the water level at the lake I hunt the most and it is within 9 inches of where it was at its lowest last year. I scouted it again last weekend and saw nothing but muddy banks and no cover or food for the ducks. If it will rain some it will rise back into the grass and it will be OK but like everyone said we need RAIN!!! And lots of it

I hope the skies open up about the first week or so of Dec. Just in time for all that green to start hitting town from their overfly of the midwest this year

Im not sure where most of yall are located, and I guess most of yall hunt public, but every one of my holes at the house in Justin is full and looking great. Weve been blessed with rain, now yeah we could use some more, but its a whole heck of a lot better then last year. Im even gonna get to hunt some of my holes along the creek I havent hunted in 2 years. But rain is always welcome

We drove a couple hundred miles scouting. No water, no food. A couple really close lakes are small puddles and when I scouted them I saw more people scouting than ducks. Blinds already being built a week ago.
Seriously thinking about parking up on the hill, cooking breakfest and just watching the circus this year.
