I am just beginning with the venture of learning how to shoot and hunt with a recurve bow. It took about 5 minutes to run into my first problem. The bow is twisting of the string. I have tried to restring it several times, but it continues. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? thanks.

Jake

No prob. The arm of the bow is twisting, so that the string pops around to the wrong side of the bow.

I am trying to visualize what you are describing. 1) Is this a new or used bow. If an old bow, it may have a twisted limb that is twisting more causing your problem. You can check this situation for a twisted limb by just eyeing it or lay the bow down on a flat table etc. and see if the upper and lower limbs are the same distance from the table. 2)Make sure you are stringing it correctly !(correct side of the bow) 3) Make sure the Brace height is correct for that bow, should be anywhere/somewhere between 7 inches to maybe 8 1/2 inches from the string to the inset in the riser where you are holding the bow. 4) Never store you longbow or recurve standing /leaning up in a closet etc. It should be layed flat so not to twist the limbs over time. Check it out. Good Luck!!

I don't totally understand the problem but it does sounds like a twisted limb as stated above. When the bow is drawn the limb twist which takes the string from out of the strings grooves causing the string to end up on the side if the limb on release. I think

I found it is a twisted limb. The bow is only a month or so old. A martin. Trying to get it replaced. Thanks a ton for the help.

Glad you figured it out. Martin bows a really good. My brother had an archery shop for several years and he was a martin dealer. They were tops in standing behind thier equipment and made it right for thier customers. I have four martin recurves and longbows myself. Favorite of them all is the Hatfield takedown!!!!! Smooooooooooooth as silk.
