Looking for a cheaper rifle for my gf. I want to get her something in .25-06 or 7mm-08. I've been looking and cant find much. I'm almost shying away from the Remington 700 ADL, but I like the price? Why is it cheaper than the others? Can i get the 700 ADL, then buy a after market stock for it? I understand rifles and such for the most part, just don't know what to do, and I don't have access to go look at them whenever I want.

No reason to shy away from a remington 700 adl. Theres no dbm thats all. It's a good solid rifle. Yes you can upgrade the stock very easily, and put on a decent scope and your good to go.

A 700 ADL came into my mind as I read the title of your post.

Used ruger m77's come on the forum all the time. Some are decently priced too.

700adl

But for a lady I would go with the 7-08 just do to over all length of the entire rifle

only difference in the ADL is the lack of a drop plate magazine and stock quality.

its a great rifle, just not as fancy as the BDL or the CDL

think of it as the difference between the 870 express and the wingmaster

They sound like good rifles from what I have read. If you can find a Marlin X rifle they are good budget guns too, they have them in 7-08 and Boyds gunstocks makes replacements if you like a real wood or laminate stock look instead of the plain black. I have 3 of the Marlins and they shoot great.

TC Venture might be more expensive but is a better rifle IMO.

The 700 ADL does not have a removable magazine. You load from the top. Other than that, it is a nice shooting rifle albeit with a dang heavy factory trigger. Mine measured 8#!!! ...until I replaced it with a Jewel. Now it is very crisp at 1 1/2# and gets sub moa when I'm steady enough to take advantage of it.

Can I buy a 700 bdl stock and put it on there? Or is there an aftermarket adl stick that allows for a magazine?

Just spend a little extra and get TC Encore. BUT, the ADL is a good rifle for the price, and kick myself for selling my .243 because it was dang good shooter. Good glass, trigger job and it was MOA all day long.

Yes, but you will also need the bdl trigger guard, mag spring, and I think you'll need the mag box too.

If I was in your shoes, I would buy the adl, buy an aftermarket adl stock when $$ allowed. The dbm magazine on a bdl is a nice feature but I don't think its worth the additional cost to convert an adl to bdl.

why shy away from the adl? I got one at a good deal with the intention of upgrading the stock but it shoots great so I haven't touched it yet.

what about .243?

My buddy has a Stevens 200 and it is a tack driver. They come pretty cheap, too.

Love all of my 700s. I would just buy the BDL to start with if your set on that stock. Once you buy an ADL, new stock and everything else you are probably in the price range of a BDL anyways.

Got one in .270 for my son. Great shooter, inexpensive. Better gun than some might give credit for.
But lots of good options for not too much more. The Stevens, the 700.

Thats the sweet part. You dont have to buy the gun and upgrade out of the gate. Shoot it in stock form for a while, hunt a year and when funds allow, upgrade whatever you want to upgrade. This is possible with most of the rifles listed above.

I say a savage rifle. Or the 700, but no mossbergs. I hate mossberg firearms, with a passion. Their customer service is great, I can't say the same for their firearms. Customer service won't help you when youmre trying to kill a big buck and your gun goes "click". Ive never owned a savage I was proud of. I like howa, savage, and Remington very well. I don't care what people say about savage, or howas for that matter. Even if the howas are Japanese made, they still work great and get the job done everytime as long as you do yours. Never had a problem with howa or savage. And both are relatively cheap.

Bought a rem 700 adl in 223 couple years ago, it shoot GREAT no need to upgrade it whatsoever.

Whats the deal with all the add ons today? I have several guns that shoot very well and have nothign more than a scope and sling on them and the original stock. Oh but wait I dont have a grill guard replacement bumper and bigger tires on my truck either... damn im just not cool crying

Its all a crock, if you already know who you are what you want and need then you dont have to fit in with the trend and change anything. Get a 700 adl in an acceptable caliber put an ok scope on it and your ready to go, could you spend a whole hell of alot more? Yes. Will it kill deer hogs or anything else any deader? No.
