I'm partial to the 7mm Mag so that's what I would suggest!

Try to shoot each one and see which one you like the best. It is usually the recoil that gets people. If you want to shoot loads that are not dumbed down and drop ten feet at 200 yards, you might want a smaller caliber with less recoil. I love the .243, but the .270 isn't much more recoil. I like the .243 becuase I can shoot and watch the animal fall from my scope without the recoil knocking me off. I can't do that with my 30-06 and have to practise a lot to do it with a .270.

Any of those calibers are suitable for both. Out of the 4 choices you listed it would be a toss up between .308 and .270 for me.

.270 out of your choices, but id go with .25-06 if you could. Plenty of power to kill deer and hogs, and less recoil as well.

I have owned a 270, 30 06 and 7mm. A good friend owns a 308. If you are just hunting deer and hogs, I think the 270 is your best choice. If you are looking for a good all around gun to hunt in Texas (no long distances), then I think the 30 06 might be better due to the larger projectile. If you're looking for the best of the 4 for general hunting in North America, I think the 7mm wins it hands down.

I second the .25-06. Of the choices you gave I would not get the 7 mag. I like 7 mags, but recoil is a factor and the ammo is more $$ than the other options.

Take your pick. Any of them will do the job. I have a .270 and love it. Have a .308 too.

Any of the 4 will kill anything walking and breathing in Texas.
I own a 270, my Dad a 30-06, and my bro in law a 308. Out of those three, my personal favorite is the 270, but it is VERY much personal preference.
Hate to muddy up your decision any more, but you also need to consider the rifle in which each is chambered. Any of those calibers will have different performance and recoil characteristics depending on quality and length of barrel, thick ness of barrel, weight of rifle, free floated or not, beddded or not, trigger, bolt, semi, or pump, etc.
If it were me, I would settle on a rifle first, then make the caliber decision based on what is offered in that rifle.

You must have a 7MM08 to kill an animal in Tx anymore. All other calibers are obsolete since it's inception.
Seriously though, I like the idea above to shoot each one and choose the one you like. Any of those calibers are just fine for medium to some large game.

i used to have a lease manager that would say " i didnt know they made anything but a 270... and i shoot a 270 as well.... but if i was gonna buy a gun and didnt have a deer rifle at all , i would go to a smaller caliber...i actually wanna buy a 243 so the ole lady and the kids can shoot it to...they all have shot the 270 but 243 or something smaller is just easier shooting

I hate to say it but you just named off the 4 most popular hunting cartridges in North America. Each will do what you ask, pick one and get after it!
