I am considering an entry level compound bow. I am looking to the PSE Stinger or Bear Encounter. Are these good bows?
I have been recurve hunting for a while, and this season I have shot twice only to miss (high which is surprising). I am hooked and want to seal the deal...

Shoot a lot of bows and don't worry about brand! Find the one you like and get it. Bowtech makes awesome bows, Athens, darton, mathews, bear etc etc. Shoot em all and compare and you'll be happy

Bought my first bow 2 years ago and it was a pse stinger and it was reallyyyy loud... I heard the newer ones were a lot better tho, like stated above though the best thing would be to shoot around and find the one you like best

Shoot as many as possible and get the one that feel best to you. x2... Find a bow that you like.. Before i bought my new Bear this year, I shot 5 of the newer bows on the market. I purchased the Bear because i liked it the best and it fit me.

You didn't say what your budget is but consider this...you can go buy an entry level bow for around $350 and put easily another $200 to make it ready to hunt (plus tax). Another option is to look for a quality used bow loaded for around $500-600. Probably 50% of used bows have seen maybe one season.
Short list:
- Diamond Outlaw - Quest Hammer - PSE Bow Madness XS - Martin Pantera - Bowtech Assassin - Mathews Switchback - Hoyt Maxxis 31

Shoot as many as you can, then you pick the one that best fits you and you feel comfortable with.

Where are you located. I would avoid the big box stores like the plaque, they kill the aspiriations of more would-be bowhunters than add to the crowd. There are plenty of great bowshops all over texas offering the same prices that will help you get set-up the "Right" way and give you the biggest chance to make your new hunting style more succesful.

Cabellas in Allen is great...if the bow is a ready to hunt package then its really easy to shoot several bows they have a 15 yard range right there so its super easy. I really like the guys over in All Star Archery in Lewisville...great range, during a hour lunch I shot 5 different bow...helpful staff.
